Due to recent heavy rain events, soil moisture remains high enough that clusters of storms forecasters expect to be dropping southeast through the area through tonight will likely contain heavy rain rates. This could very well pile water up quickly in problem lower lying and urbanized areas subject to poor drain off of storm water. A slight risk of flash flooding is outlooked for much of the area through tonight. Stay weather aware, especially if you are in or will be driving through a flood prone area at the time storms are making passage through the area.

⛈️A cluster of storms is forecast to drop southeast through the area this afternoon into tonight. A few of the storms could become marginally severe with damaging winds being the main threat.

As temperatures continue to reach dangerous levels, our volunteer firefighters are responding to emergency calls and fire scenes in extreme heat conditions. These men and women often spend hours working in heavy protective gear while battling fires and protecting our community.

To help keep our firefighters safe and hydrated, we are asking for donations of:

✅ Liquid IV hydration
✅ Cooling towels or cooling cloths

These items will be kept on hand and used at fire scenes to help prevent heat-related illnesses, reduce fatigue, and allow our firefighters to safely continue serving our community.

Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Your support helps ensure that those who answer the call for us have the resources they need to stay healthy and safe while protecting lives and property.

These donations can be dropped off at the Wayne County E911/EMA Building located at 818 Chickasawhay Street.

Thank you for supporting our volunteer firefighters and helping us take care of those who take care of our community.

Forecasters are watching a system upstream over central MS, that may become better organized through the course of the afternoon, forming into a line of storms tracking southeastward. These storms could very well move across the northern zones late in the afternoon and evening and bring a marginal risk of severe weather up across the U.S Highway 84 corridor. Storms are expected to weaken after midnight as they drop further south. The main threat in any severe storms will be damaging winds. Be prepared to move to a place of shelter quickly in the case warnings are issued for your area.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD THREAT TODAY ⚠️

Most of Mississippi is under an Elevated (Level 2) flash flood threat through this afternoon as heavy rainfall moves across the state.

🌧️ 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible, may fall in a short period of time over already saturated soils.

Potential impacts include:
🚧 Flooded roads
🏠 Minor flooding of structures
🌊 Flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas

If you encounter a flooded roadway, remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.
Stay weather aware and monitor local forecasts and alerts throughout the day.

Showers and storms moving in from the west will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall this afternoon. With soils already saturated, this will likely result in quick developing flash flooding. Never drive through flooded roadways!
