On Thursday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. George Phillips, from the Museum of Natural Science will present a program, entitled "Fossil Discoveries in Wayne County, MS". Wayne County has an intellectual wealth of fossil history lying just beneath its surface. Over the years, important discoveries have been made in streams, roadcuts, and at least one quarry that reveal an incredible amount of detail regarding the area's paleontological past. Join George Phillips, Paleontology Curator at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, as he shares a summary presentation on the geology and fossil record of Wayne County, discussing some of the interesting creatures that once inhabited the area and interpreting the environment in which they lived.

All children must be preregistered for the summer reading program by applying for a library card. Parents bring a photo i.d. (drivers license) and a piece of mail with a postmark on the front of the envelope dated within the last thirty days. On Tuesday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m., Move to Learn will present a program as part of the "Unearth A Story" Summer Reading Program at the Waynesboro-Wayne County Library. The program will be followed by a craft and lunch. Move to Learn is a popular Mississippi-based initiative that incorporates 5-minute physical activity breaks into routines. Designed collaboratively by the Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education, the program utilizes videos and activities to re-energize children and increase academic focus. All children must be preregistered by applying for a library card. Parents bring a photo i.d. Thanks to Ranger Martin, and dinosaurs Fluffy, Rexi and Tater from The Dinosaur Experience for visiting the library today. After the program, the kids colored two wood dinosaurs, picked out a free book, and enjoyed pizza for lunch.

The Waynesboro-Wayne County Library is excited to share that a $750.00 Spark Good Local grant was awarded from the Waynesboro Walmart #785 store. This grant will help fund food and supplies for the "Unearth A Story" Summer Reading Program, which consists of eight programs at the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by lunch. The library staff would like to thank Jonathan Smith, Manager, for supporting educational programs for children in Wayne County.

On Thursday, June 11, The Dinosaur Experience will be the featured program from Watson, Louisiana. This child-friendly show brings a Jurassic dinosaur experience featuring Nash, a trained walking 15-foot T-Rex, and Rexi a baby T-Rex, and possibly a surprise visitor. The event will be led by Martin Wilmott originally from Essex, north of London, England. Martin came to Louisiana in 2009 while following his favorite football team, The New Orleans Saints, and after meeting his wife, Dawn, moved to the area and started a business, Mission Inflatable.

Crafts & other activities will be followed by lunch after the program.

All children must be pre-register for the summer reading program by applying for a library card. Parents should bring a piece of mail with a postmark on the front of the envelope dated within the last thirty days, along with a photo ID (Driver’s license). Please register before the day of the program. Thanks to Bob Swanson, the "Singing Weatherman", for visiting with the kids at the "Unearth A Story" Summer Reading Program today. He conducted science experiments, played multiple instruments, and brought many rocks and fossils for the children to examine. Each participant received a dinosaur brag tag necklace, a dinosaur tattoo and completed a STEM matching exercise with colored pom poms, followed by lunch.
