Another progress update for the Renfrew Mill! B.E. Hassett Millwrights, Inc. of Louisville, KY has been working hard in their workshop on the flume frames and boards. They have completed the assembly of the components and will now prepare to deliver and install these pieces later this summer! Every single piece of the Renfrew Mill will be made and assembled by hand by these incredible experts over the course of this summer. We can’t wait to share more updates with you soon!

A few weeks ago, the staff and student interns from Special Collections, Musselman Library, Gettysburg College visited Renfrew’s Executive Director and Gettysburg College alumna Ashley Sonntag for a special field trip! During their visit, they experienced an in-depth guided tour followed by a behind-the-scenes viewing of our archives, collection, and newly unveiled America250 Exhibit. We love having the opportunity to exchange ideas with other institutions, rising professionals, and our peers… not to mention being able to share this special place while we do!

A look back to the end of June during Renfrew’s Civil War Living History Weekend! Many thanks to our participants who volunteered their time to host free presentations, demonstrations, and interactive activities for the Waynesboro community! We saw countless visitors who asked fantastic questions, practiced drill with the military, and toured the museum house to learn a little more about this piece of our local history. This annual event will return next year with some new surprises!

Many, many thanks to our historic interpreters who participated in Renfrew’s 250th Anniversary Soldier and Militia Living History! Interpreters shared the history of the Franklin County and Pennsylvania men who fought during the American Revolution. Each interpreter represented a different story and uniform from the period, which created a great opportunity for conversation and answering questions! Visitors learned drill, heard a reading of the Declaration of Independence, watched soldiers cook rations in the Summer Kitchen, took pictures with America250PA’s Bell Across PA, and more! America250 will still be celebrated for years to come, so stay tuned for more Revolutionary experiences at Renfrew soon!
