🎒BACK TO SCHOOL!🎒

Augusta County, Waynesboro, and Staunton Public Schools are back in session today, Wednesday, August 12th!📆

We want to wish all the students, teachers, staff, and families a great first day!📚

As everyone gets back into their school routines, please remember to slow down, stay alert, and watch for increased traffic and school buses on our roads.⚠️

Always stop for school buses when they are stopped with their warning lights activated and never pass a stopped school bus.🛑🚌

Let’s all do our part to help keep our students safe as they travel to and from school each day.♥️🚒

⛈️WHAT A STORM!⛈️

A severe thunderstorm blew through our area yesterday evening and our crews stayed busy! They responded to 9 calls for service in under 1 hour, all in our first due area.⚡️

We are extremely grateful that there were no injuries or significant losses. All 9 calls were weather-related and involved downed power/utility lines, trees down, or both.🌳

We are especially thankful for our ACFR career staff and our dedicated volunteers! Our career staff answered 2 calls for service with 2 personnel operating Engine 90🚒 and our volunteers answered 7 calls with 5 certified volunteers operating Brush 93 and Brush 94.🚒🚒

We are also thankful for Wilson Volunteer Fire Company. We needed assistance with traffic control for our safety while removing a large tree on an already dangerous road. They responded Utility 197 with 3 dedicated volunteers.🚒

Severe weather can change conditions quickly and having both career and volunteer personnel ready to respond makes a tremendous difference in keeping our community safe. We are proud of everyone who answered the calls and helped keep our community safe throughout the storm.🩵

🚒VOLUNTEER INQUIRIES🚒
You can stop by our station to pick up an application to be considered for volunteer membership. They are also available on our website. The application must be completed and must be notarized. Please note that the determination of a person’s eligibility to volunteer is based on a mandatory criminal background check which is a state and national search based on fingerprints submitted to the FBI. That means that you will have to be fingerprinted and a thorough background investigation will be conducted. Certain crimes can disqualify a person from volunteering with an EMS agency due to the high degree of public trust and public safety involved. Criminal convictions and even certain misdemeanors are common grounds for disqualification. Even if they are not felonies, certain other offenses may prevent someone from volunteering. Upon successful completion of a background check, you will be contacted by a member of our fire company to set up a membership interview with our Executive Committee at our earliest convenience. Remember, we are all volunteers also.

🚒OUR JULY MONTHLY TRAINING🚒

Last night, Augusta County Fire-Rescue’s C Shift crews from Station 10, Station 11, and Rescue 18 along with volunteers from Dooms Volunteer Fire Company and New Hope Volunteer Fire Company came together at Crimora Park to sharpen our skills through 3 hands-on training scenarios.

🚒Scenario 1: Low-angle patient rescue using a Stokes basket, rescue wheel, and rope-based haul systems.

🚒Scenario 2: Drafting water from the river with Dooms Engine 90 to establish a water supply for Augusta County Fire-Rescue Truck 11.

🚒Scenario 3: Water rescue operations, including throwing rescue ropes to a victim in the river and reviewing water rescue techniques and best practices.

We were proud to have 13 certified volunteers and 3 new volunteers from Dooms Volunteer Fire Company in attendance demonstrating their dedication and commitment to continually train and improve their skills.

A big thank you to Augusta County Fire-Rescue C Shift's Lieutenant and Battalion Chief for reaching out and organizing a joint training opportunity.💛

We appreciate each person who took the time to train and strengthen our ability to serve the residents and visitors of Augusta County. The commitment, professionalism, and teamwork displayed by everyone involved are what make strong partnerships possible.♥️

😎FUN!😎

🌞Does it get any better than that on a beautiful summer day?!🌞

☀️When school is out for summer, kids still need an environment that keeps them active, learning, and growing! Each summer, nestled right here in our beautiful Augusta County, Camp Light gives them just that!☀️

💛Creative Works Farm, the proud home of Camp Light, hosts an amazing summer day camp program at no cost to families of children with medical, physical, behavioral, and other special needs, as well as at-risk youth. Their mission is to show kids with special needs and circumstances that life is only limited by their imagination, and to give them new tools and skills, along with love and support, to inspire them to become anything they can dream! They also have one week for adults as well!💛

🚒We are honored to be a very small part of this wonderful program and we can’t thank them enough for inviting us! We hope the kids had as much fun as we did getting to check out our fire engines and equipment and learn about fire safety each week of camp!🚒

💛💙♥️Thank you to every ACFR career and DVFC volunteer who attended this program this summer! You are truly appreciated!♥️💙💛
