[Preserving a Legacy - Entry #10]

>Many American Legion posts used to keep scrapbooks of their accomplishments and activities during the year. They would often be submitted to higher levels, with outstanding ones receiving recognition and awards. This is Post 340's scrapbook from 2005 to 2009 - starting in 2010 the Post's content became mostly digital.

>I wanted to make sure all the work that was put into these scrapbooks was preserved, but scanning in each page would have been prohibitively arduous. Thus, I ended up making a 35-minute video flipping through it instead. This is the first of several I'll be making, so please look forward to the next ones!

Today, we celebrate the 236th Birthday of the United States Coast Guard and honor the generations of Coast Guardsmen who have safeguarded our nation's waters, protected our shores, and answered the call with courage, dedication, and selfless service.

Happy Birthday, U.S. Coast Guard, and thank you to all who have served.

[Preserving a Legacy - Entry #9]

>The Shenandoah Signal was Post 340's newsletter from 2000-2001. Anyone who's volunteered for an organization that puts out newsletters knows how laborious it can be to draft, edit, and publish a newsletter, so it is not unusual for them to start and stop as time goes on.

>Today, Post 340 maintains its meeting minutes on its website. In combination with the monthly Post News that's posted here, the content remains the same (if not more comprehensive). We use a pairing of technology and human dedication to make sure that the public is kept in the loop every month as to how we operate and how we service our community and its veterans.

On National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, we honor the men and women who answered the call in the "Forgotten War" and remember the more than 36,000 Americans who gave their lives and the more than 100,000 wounded in defense of freedom.

Their courage will never be forgotten.

The More You Know: 💫

>Membership renewal for the next calendar year starts on July 1. The logic is that everyone gets half a year to renew, and bookkeepers, membership heads, etc. get plenty of time to run numbers and forecast goals for the next cycle.

>Your membership is still good through the entire regular calendar year, despite how early the renewal notices go out. The earlier members renew, the easier it is for the post to be recognized and awarded for meeting its membership goals!
