Training and incident preparedness is a high priority for borough firefighters. Your firefighters average over 500 hours of training each month - they perform evaluations not until they get it right rather until they can’t get it wrong.

An incident occurred this past weekend which brings to light the benefit of having our Borough fire station staffed 24/7/365. A couple found a small toddler wondering the streets. Being a weekend walk in service at the police station was not available, the officers were out on patrol. So the good couple then came to the fire station. Now just because our FD is staffed all the time does not necessarily mean there is always someone in the station. The men could be out on an emergency run, out doing training, participating in a community event or even yes going to the store to shop for dinner in which case the public still has direct 911 access via the Emergency Blue Light Box next to the front door. With the push of a single button you can have direct intercom access to the 911 call center. FYI, there is an identical Emergency Blue Light Box on the exterior of the police station as well.

Great Day in the Borough, our firefighters along side nearly 50 other area firefighters (Paid & Volunteer) gathered for an awesome training event. Chief Dan Shaw and Captain Doug Mitchell (authors of the book “25 to Survive; Reducing Residential Injury and LODD”) gave a presentation passing on valuable information and insight to our firefighters. The program was made possible through the support of Borough Council, The Waynesboro Police & Fire Foundation along with support from local businesses:

265 total runs thus far on the year. A few less than this time last year which is good news for the community which leaves more time for training and preparations for when the run does come in. Our firefighters log hundreds of hours training each month working hard living up to our Chief’s Montra of “Making Today’s Firefighters Better for Tomorrow than we were Yesterday”
