Our Veteran Advocate, Michael Ferguson, spent yesterday at the VA Disability Claims Clinic at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort and he’s back again today!

This two-day event is bringing veterans and their families together with help for disability claims, benefits questions, health care, mental health support, caregiver resources, and more.

Michael has been busy connecting with veterans and community partners and sharing information about WNC Alliance’s veteran advocacy, crisis support, and resources available across far Western North Carolina.

If you’re attending today, stop by the WNC Alliance table and say hello. WNC Alliance’s event setup came with an impressive backdrop. You can't miss it!

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and has been recognized as a federal holiday since 2021. Pride Month is observed each June to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities and honor the legacy of the 1969 Stonewall uprising. We enjoyed celebrating both last Friday at Sylva Pride's Juneteenth & Pride Jubilee!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared a conversation, picked up resources, gave therapy dog-in-training Metra a friendly pat, or simply spent time celebrating community with us. We are grateful for opportunities to support and stand alongside all members of our seven-county region.

Our four-legged team members were proud to participate in the Elder Abuse Awareness Walk in Waynesville.

By coming together as a community, we can raise awareness to help prevent abuse, show support for survivors, and help to ensure older adults are treated with the dignity, respect, and care they deserve.

A special thank you to everyone who organized the event, joined the walk, shared resources, and helped shine a light on this important issue. Our therapy dogs loved meeting participants and reminding everyone that sometimes support comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

WNC Alliance is incredibly grateful to the sponsors supporting our inaugural Par for Protection golf tournament at Sequoyah National Golf Club.

Community partnerships make this work possible. Par for Protection helps support children exposed to violence through trauma-informed advocacy, mental health services, prevention education, and coordinated community support across the seven far western counties of North Carolina. We couldn't do this important work without the support of our partners.

Special thanks to:
• Adamas Construction
• Rock for Relief
• Ameriprise Financial
• Haywood County Schools Foundation
• Smoky Mountain News
• GPL Technologies

These sponsors are invested in safer, healthier communities and they stand alongside children and families impacted by violence in Western North Carolina.

WNC Alliance’s Crystal Snover and Lynn Carlson had a fantastic day connecting with partners from across the state at the NC Counts Coalition Annual Statewide Convening in Wilmington on April 20.

Thank you to NC Counts Coalition for creating a space to learn, collaborate, and prepare for the work ahead as we move toward the 2030 Census.

It was also a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow Region 1 coalition members who are doing incredible work to strengthen communities across Western North Carolina.

Together, we make NC count.
