Waynoka was established along the Santa Fe RR because of the abundance of good quality water which the steam engines required. In 1929, Oklahoma's first transcontinental airport was established by Charles Lindbergh et al who were the founders of America's first transcontinental airport, "Coast to Coast in 48 Hours", utilizing Ford tri-motor planes for daylight flying, and the railroad for night tr

avel. Modernization continued, and it wasn't long till night flying became a safe way to travel, and saved time.
