At today’s Summer Reading Program at the Waynoka Public Library, Waynoka City employee, Carol Smith, gave our young readers a front-row seat to how water travels from the town straight to their homes.
Here are the highlights from today's fun:

Excavator Experience: Carol dug a real trench and let the kids sit in the driver's seat of a mini excavator.

Dirt Digging: Young readers got their hands dirty digging for hidden surprises in the soil.

Sweet Treat: Everyone cooled off after the hard work with a delicious watermelon snack.

Thank you to Carol Smith and the City of Waynoka for creating such an engaging, hands-on learning experience for our community's kids!

🦕We had an absolutely dino-mite time at today’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) sessions! Here is a recap of the prehistoric fun our young readers had today:

📝Session 1: Tonieboxes & Dino Armor

🎧Screen-Free Audio Tech: Our readers were introduced to our brand-new Tonieboxes! These awesome, kid-friendly audio players are now available for you to check out and take home.

📚Storytime: We used a Toniebox to listen to a little of Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Pout Pout Fish.

✂️Craft Time: After learning how prehistoric giants used heavy armor to protect themselves, the kids got creative and designed their very own wearable "bony plates" to take home!

🔖 Session 2: Long-Necked Bookmarks & Library Surprises

📚Storytime: We used a Toniebox to listen to the first few chapters of The Magic Treehouse: Dinosaurs Before Dark

🦕Dino Crafts: Our second group crafted adorable, long-necked dinosaur bookmarks to keep their places in their favorite books.

❤️Spreading Joy: In the sweetest twist of the day, several readers chose to hide their handmade bookmarks inside books on our shelves. Keep your eyes peeled—you might just find a prehistoric surprise the next time you check out a book!

Thank you to all the brilliant young paleontologists who joined us today. Don't forget to swing by the front desk to check out a Toniebox or grab a reading log for your next reading adventure!

🦖🦕 FOSSIL FUN AT THE LIBRARY! 🦕🦖

We had an absolutely rockin’ time at the Waynoka Public Library’s Summer Reading Program! A huge thank you to Stan the Rock Man for taking our young readers on an unforgettable journey back in time. 🌍✨

Stan brought history to life with some incredible specimens, including:
🌱 Ancient shale
🦖 A real dinosaur vertebra
🥚 A dinosaur egg
💩 ...and everyone's absolute favorite, fossilized dinosaur p**p (coprolite)!

The kids were fascinated, asked amazing questions, and learned so much about the creatures that used to roam our Earth.

Best of all, the adventure didn't end when the program did! Thanks to Stan's generosity, every single attendee got to take home two real pieces of history to start their own fossil collections:
🐚 A brachiopod fossil
⚓ A crinoid stem fossil (ancient "sea lily")

Thank you, Stan, for sharing your passion and inspiring our next generation of geologists and paleontologists!

📚 Missed out on the fun? Keep an eye on our page for more exciting Summer Reading Program events coming your way!

🦖🦴 ROARING FUN AT THE LIBRARY! 🦕

✨Our young readers transformed into real-life paleontologists for today's session of the Summer Reading Program! Armed with excavation tools and a lot of curiosity, our junior scientists worked hard to chip away, brush, and unearth hidden dinosaur fossils from rock samples.

Don't forget to track your reading minutes to score some epic summer prizes! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late—visit the Waynoka Public Library and stop by the front desk to register.

🎉 The Waynoka Public Library is announcing an exciting finale event for this year’s Summer Reading Program. Young participants who complete their reading goals will earn a free field trip to the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, featuring the special "Dino Safari" dinosaur expedition. The trip, on Friday, June 26, serves as the grand finale to a summer dedicated to literacy, learning, and community engagement. Library staff designed the event to celebrate the hard work and dedication of Waynoka's young readers.

Requirements to Earn the Trip
To qualify for the field trip, participants must meet three specific milestones during the summer program:
🦕 Enrollment: Enrollment forms must be completed by a parent/guardian for the Waynoka Public Library Summer Reading Program
🦖 Session Attendance: Students must attend at least five of the seven Summer Reading Program sessions at the library.
📚 Reading Logs: Participants must log a minimum of 10 total hours of reading time on their official library reading logs.
Completed SRP Finale Punch Cards must be turned in to the library staff by June 24 to secure a spot on the trip bus.

🦕 Roaring Adventures Await at the OKC Zoo
The highlight of the field trip is the OKC Zoo’s limited-time dinosaur expedition. This immersive experience transports visitors back to the prehistoric era. Students who earn the trip will encounter life-sized, scientifically accurate animatronic dinosaurs hidden along the zoo's paths. The exhibition features moving, roaring models of prehistoric giants, including the Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Brachiosaurus. In addition to the dinosaur trail, the field trip includes access to the zoo's regular animal exhibits, providing an educational experience that blends paleontology, biology, and wildlife conservation.

🪏For More Information
Parents and guardians can pick up official reading logs and a full schedule of summer sessions at the Waynoka Public Library front desk. Library staff will track attendance at each event and are available to answer questions regarding log submissions and any other questions.

📚 What an incredible day at the Waynoka Public Library! We were absolutely thrilled to host a special guest for our Summer Reading Program today.

Author Eileen Hobbs joined us to share her books including her wonderful book, "The Girl from Korn." Our readers were completely captivated as she read excerpts aloud, bringing the story and characters to life right in our library.

Eileen also gave our young bookworms a peek behind the curtain by sharing her unique writing process, inspiring many of our own budding authors. To top off the perfect visit, she stayed to autograph copies of her book for her excited fans.

Thank you so much, Eileen, for making our summer reading adventures even more magical!
