PUBLIC SERVICE
Wayzata Planning Commission – My family loves Wayzata too! While honoring the zoning ordinances and building codes, I take a conservative approach to variances and special uses. There must be a strong reason and a hardship for me to make exceptions. It is imperative that we do not veer too far away from our guidelines or we will be overwhelmed with requests and unwanted changes in our neighborhoods. Consistent application of the cities laws is critical especially the rules on height. I voted NO on the Boat Works both times.
Wayzata Zoning Task Force - Selected by Council to review Wayzata building design standards related to Residential and Commercial Districts, Planned Unit Developments and Tree Preservation. This taskforce had its first meeting this week and I will be able to offer years of experience from my career building new construction and rehabbing historic high-end properties.
Breck School – Board of Trustees – While my kids are involved, I am involved. As a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee we review capital expenditures for the school be it a new HVAC system, pool repairs or making modifications to the systems for COVID so the kids can return. Steeped in building knowledge I am able to offer first-hand common-sense advice to maintain costs and a safe environment.
Years of development experience at all my kid’s schools has given me a leg up on the Development Committee. Many volunteer hours patiently listening to the needs of the stakeholders resulting in a strong school community. The roles I have assume in many development volunteer positions, is much like I expect my role to be if elected to city council. It takes two ears and one mouth!.
JDRF (F/K/A Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) – Dedicated to finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Been on the board since my daughter was diagnosed in 2013. As Board Nominating Chair, I recruited 10 board members the first year and 9 the second year. Our goal was to increase the size of the board. Thanks to my team of talented and devoted committee members, we knocked the cover off the ball both in numbers and experience level. I am also on the Executive Team, and guide the organization to meet their financial goals. Lastly, I am now leading a new committee to build relationships with donors who are critical to the JDRF mission.
Holiday Home Camp – Geneva Lake, Wi. HHC provided a summer home to about 500 inner-city kids each summer. Many of whom had never seen a bond fire or walked through the woods at night in total darkness. Swimming in the lake, raccoons and other wildlife excited these kids to no end. This was one of the greatest joys of my life to bring Hope and Happiness to the kids who had few options apart from the city streets. I served 9 years on the board.
