Westside Communities in Action

Westside Communities in Action Bringing together the needs of our neighbors with those who can help. Westside CIA (formerly known as Wayzata CIA) began with a search.

A search for meaningful ways to engage in community efforts and offer help to those in need. A search that was often
frustrating and full of obstacles. A search that made founder Tammy Orning think, “It should not be this difficult to help a neighbor.” The seed was planted and the goal set: WCIA will be a conduit through which everyday people can get connected to various organizations or individua

ls needing volunteers and/or other resources. But WCIA needs your help! What assistance does your organization need? Do you need a coat drive, a bake sale, a driver, a mentor, a friend? Are the needs long-term, short-term, or both? The need in our own community is great. It is the WCIA goal to help connect local organizations with those willing to give the time, effort and resources needed. WCIA wants to encourage a lifestyle where neighbor helping neighbor is a natural part of everyday life. A place where a family can check out volunteer opportunities - and make a difference within the greater Westside community. WCIA will sponsor activities in the community that foster an environment of
caring for our neighbors. These activities will initially include family service fairs at local elementary schools (built on the Doing Good Together model), which provides families a springboard for active participation in charitable work throughout the year. The WCIA website also provides an easy way for neighbors to help neighbors in a simple, grassroots format.

Look at the difference these local Girls Scouts are making for the community!

"Did you know that 70% of women with pets who are in an abusive relationship have reported that their significant other has either threatened or already harmed their pets? Even worse, that causes 50% to delay leaving the relationship since most domestic shelters don’t allow pets. Three girls share their solution."

The 18 truckloads of food collected from Sunday's food drive at Sanford Middle School have been distributed, helping to nourish those most affected by the unrest. The need sadly continues, but the drive and ability to help is strong in our community. We're adding an urgent food collection this Saturday, June 6 from 10am to 2pm in our warehouse at 2723 Patton Road, Roseville, MN 5113. If you are able, please bring by non-perishable canned food, rice, pasta, diapers, feminine hygiene items, or baby formula. If you are unable to come but want to help in other ways, monetary donations are still one of the best ways for us to purchase food and continue fighting child hunger through these unsettling times.
