🚒 WEATHERFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT – FIREWORKS INFORMATION
With recent discussion regarding Oklahoma's new Rocket's Red Glare Act (SB 1948), the Weatherford Fire Department would like to remind residents that while state law has changed regarding the sale and use of certain consumer fireworks, the discharge of fireworks remains prohibited within the City of Weatherford city limits under local ordinance.
Residents should be aware that:
❌ The discharge or use of fireworks within the City of Weatherford is prohibited.
❌ The Rocket's Red Glare Act does not override the City's local ordinance prohibiting the discharge of fireworks within city limits.

Fireworks can create significant fire hazards, especially during Oklahoma's hot, dry, and windy summer conditions. Even small fireworks and sparklers can ignite grass, vegetation, structures, or other combustible materials.
For those who choose to use fireworks in areas where they are legally permitted outside city limits, please follow all applicable state and county regulations and use extreme caution. Always have a water source available, keep a safe distance from structures and dry vegetation, and never leave fireworks unattended.
The Weatherford Fire Department encourages everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly while helping protect our community from preventable fires and injuries.

We are aware that several fire hydrants are currently flowing water throughout the area. This is due to a water main break on Custer, and crews are using the hydrants to relieve pressure in the system while repairs are being made.
Utility crews are on scene and working as quickly as possible to repair the break and restore normal service. We ask for your patience and understanding while this work is being completed.

This last week, Weatherford Fire was proud to send four of our personnel to Structure Collapse Operations training, where they had the opportunity to train alongside Technical Rescue personnel from across Oklahoma. Training with other highly skilled rescue crews helps strengthen teamwork, improve capabilities, and ensures we are prepared to respond when our community needs us most.

This training was made possible through funding provided by Oklahoma Homeland Security, and we would like to extend our sincere appreciation for their support and investment in emergency response preparedness. We would also like to thank OSU for providing outstanding instruction and a great training experience.

Most importantly, thank you to our firefighters for their dedication and commitment to continually improving their skills and abilities. Their willingness to invest their time and effort into training reflects their commitment to serving the citizens of our community at the highest level possible.

We are proud of the work they put in and grateful for their continued service to Weatherford.

WFD responded to a structure fire in the area of Tom Stafford and Caddo at approximately 4:20 this morning. Crews rescued one occupant from inside the residence, while the other occupants had already made it out safely.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing any extension into the attic or other areas of the home. The fire originated in the kitchen. There is extensive smoke damage throughout the structure.
Great work by all crews involved for a quick and effective response.

Fire danger over the next 48 hours in Weatherford is expected to remain elevated to high due to dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds. These conditions can cause fires to spread quickly.
⚠️ Landowner Advisory:
If you’ve conducted prescribed burns in the past few days:
• Check burn areas for hot spots
• Make sure all fires are completely out
• Monitor closely during the afternoon
• Be ready to respond if rekindling occurs
Even fires that seem out can reignite under these conditions.
🚒 Please avoid any new outdoor burning until conditions improve.

Stay alert and report any smoke or fire immediately.

The Weatherford Fire Department is conducting prescribed burn training at the golf course this morning. You may see smoke in the area during this time.
Please do not be alarmed, this is a planned training exercise to help our firefighters maintain the skills needed to safely manage fires in our community.
