WFD responded to a structure fire in the area of Tom Stafford and Caddo at approximately 4:20 this morning. Crews rescued one occupant from inside the residence, while the other occupants had already made it out safely.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing any extension into the attic or other areas of the home. The fire originated in the kitchen. There is extensive smoke damage throughout the structure.
Great work by all crews involved for a quick and effective response.

Fire danger over the next 48 hours in Weatherford is expected to remain elevated to high due to dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds. These conditions can cause fires to spread quickly.
⚠️ Landowner Advisory:
If you’ve conducted prescribed burns in the past few days:
• Check burn areas for hot spots
• Make sure all fires are completely out
• Monitor closely during the afternoon
• Be ready to respond if rekindling occurs
Even fires that seem out can reignite under these conditions.
🚒 Please avoid any new outdoor burning until conditions improve.

This week the Weatherford Fire Department had the opportunity to attend three different career fairs, connecting with students and community members interested in public safety and the fire service.
Our firefighters spent time visiting with students about what it takes to become a firefighter, the training involved, and the many opportunities available through a career in the fire service. We always enjoy answering questions, sharing experiences from the job, and encouraging the next generation who may one day serve their community.
Thank you to the schools and organizers who invited us to participate. We appreciate the chance to represent the Weatherford Fire Department and talk with so many great students about future career paths.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about becoming a firefighter, feel free to reach out to us anytime. We’re always happy to help guide the next generation of firefighters.

We would like to congratulate Captain Blane Whitson for graduating the Oklahoma Smoke Diver Association program. This years class started out with 42 candidates from around the country and Canada and he was one of the 11 that completed it. This is a six day grueling program that tests you both physically and mentally. We want to thank him for his hard work and commitment to the fire service, our fire department and the community he serves. Well done, brother!

🔥 Fire Weather Warning – Weatherford, Oklahoma

A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Weatherford and surrounding areas due to critical fire weather conditions.

🕒 Effective:

Today through Thursday

⚠️ Conditions:
• Strong southwest winds: 20–30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph
• Low relative humidity: As low as 12–18%
• Dry fuels: Grasses and vegetation remain highly receptive to fire spread
• Above-normal temperatures

These conditions will support rapid fire ignition and extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop may spread quickly and become difficult to control.

We strongly encourage NO controlled burning the next couple days.

🚫 Safety Precautions:
• Avoid outdoor burning.
• Do not discard ci******es outdoors.
• Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks.
• Postpone activities involving welding or open flames.
• Report smoke or fire immediately to local authorities.

If you have conducted a controlled burn the last couple days please double check the area as ashes and embers can remain hot for several days and be stirred up by the wind.

Residents are urged to remain alert and use extreme caution to prevent wildfires

We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our firefighters and our community safe. 🚒 🔥

Meet Rit, WFD’s Newest Addition 🐾🚒
Rit made his very first fire call earlier today while assisting Hydro Fire with a structure fire. While he’s still learning the ropes, Rit is already showing great composure and is proud to stand alongside our firefighters and partner departments.
We’re excited to have him as part of the WFD family and look forward to watching him grow into his role.
Welcome to the team, Rit!

Weatherford Fire Department
Grass fire response Mile Marker 75

On Monday, February 9th at approximately 3:10 PM, the Weatherford Fire Department responded to a large grass fire. While en route, additional resources were requested from Clinton Fire Department. Upon arrival, it was quickly determined the incident would require additional support, and mutual aid was requested from all Custer County departments, along with task forces from Wash*ta County and Beckham County.
Thanks to the quick response and teamwork of all assisting agencies, crews were able to contain the fire to just under 500 acres and no structures were lost.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to:
- All assisting fire departments
- Custer County for providing a grader to help establish fire lines
- Oklahoma Forestry Service for assisting with fire line operations through difficult canyon terrain

We are incredibly proud to serve a community that continually supports us, and we are thankful for the surrounding departments—many volunteer-who are always ready to drop everything to help during emergencies.

Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support of your Weatherford Fire Department.
