Our annual Rodeo Parade is rolling through town this evening, and we're looking forward to seeing Main Street filled with horses, wagons, riders, and plenty of hometown pride.

The parade will begin at the Ninth Grade Center, travel north on Main Street, circle the Courthouse, and return south on South Waco Street. To safely accommodate the parade route, Main Street, South Waco Street, and the streets in between will be closed beginning at approximately 6:15 PM. Roadways are expected to reopen about an hour later once the parade has concluded.

There's just something about hearing horses clop down our roadways that takes us back to Weatherford's Wild West roots. We hope you'll come out and enjoy the tradition!

If you don't want to get stuck in the wild traffic delay, we recommend taking Santa Fe Drive as an alternate route.

We'll see you at the parade! 🐎

Road is now open!!

🚓🚨Just a heads up for those traveling through town right now. North and South bound lanes at 1800 S. Bowie are temporarily closed while crews work on a gas leak. (Between Dirkson Street and Clairemont Blvd). This may affect travel to and from the Interstate, so seek alternate route if possible.🚨🚓

Yesterday, the Weatherford Police Department lost a member of our family.

Corporal Joe Hanna dedicated more than 26 years of service to the citizens of Weatherford before retiring from the Weatherford Police Department. His commitment to public service continued long after retirement as he served in court security for Parker County until December 2025.

Joe was a pioneer in our K9 program and had a special gift when it came to working with dogs. Alongside his K9 partners, Bandit and Agent, he helped shape a program that continues to serve our community today.

Those who worked beside Joe remember much more than his accomplishments. They remember a man who somehow always seemed to arrive at a scene before anyone realized they needed him. He cared deeply for his fellow officers and quietly watched over them with a protective spirit that never wavered. He was steady, dependable, quick with a joke, slow to anger, and the kind of officer everyone wanted nearby when things got tough.

Many remember the motorcycle rides, his love of dogs, and his legendary commitment to holding onto a flip phone long after the rest of the world had moved on to smartphones.

While Joe proudly served his community, those who knew him best know his favorite title was not Corporal. It was "Papa." His love for his granddaughters, Hanna and Emma, was evident to everyone who knew him.

We extend our deepest condolences to Joe's family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and service.

Rest easy, Joe. We'll take it from here.

Now that summer break has officially started, we know you parents and grandparents are looking for ways to keep the kids entertained. WPD has you covered!

We're bringing back some of our favorite summertime traditions:

🍧 Chill with WPD - Free Funky Munky at Cherry Park – Cool off with a FREE snow cone from Funky Munky Shaved Ice while hanging out with your local police officers.

🏓 Pickleball with Police – Grab a paddle, hit the courts with our officers, and enjoy some FREE pizza while you're there.

🎒 Back to School Backpack & School Supply Giveaway – We know, we know... nobody wants to think about school yet. Enjoy summer while you can! But when August rolls around, we'll be helping students get ready for a successful school year with free backpacks, school supplies, and snow cones.

These events are some of the highlights of our year because they give us the opportunity to spend time with the families we serve outside of emergency calls and traffic stops. We can't wait to see everyone this summer!

Good news, Weatherford — our criminal mischief reports dropped by 75% this past month!🎉

Now that summer is here and school is out, we do usually start seeing these reports creep back up as kids spend more time out and about. So parents, this is your friendly reminder to have the “make good choices” talk before the summer adventures begin.

We’ll be increasing patrols around parks and other popular hangout spots this summer, and we want all the mischief to stay the good, clean kind — not the criminal kind.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today, and we will never forget them.

We also want to shine a light on a local organization that has spent years supporting the veterans in our own community. American Legion Post 163 Parker County TX is facing a difficult situation, and without support, their doors may close for good.

This post is more than a building — it is a place of friendship, support, service, and community for so many of our veterans.

We would love for our community to rally around them. Join us on June 6 from 10am to 4pm at 200 Cartwright Park here in Weatherford as we come together to support an organization that has given so much back to those who served.

If you hear what sounds like shots fired tonight, don’t worry — it’s just Weatherford High School celebrating the Class of 2026 with fireworks! 🎆

We’ve been lucky enough to get to know quite a few of these students through internships and our Junior Police Academy, and it has been so fun watching them grow into incredible young adults.

To the graduates: we are proud of you, excited for you, and honestly a little emotional seeing this chapter come to an end. Your futures are bright, and we can’t wait to see what you do next. And hey… we’d love to see a few of you back here one day wearing a Weatherford Police Department uniform. 😉👮👮‍♀️

Please help us congratulate 911 Telecommunicator Kaylei Hickey on receiving the NCT911 Professionalism Award. 💛📞

Anyone who has worked with Kaylei knows this recognition is well deserved. She is a steady voice during difficult moments, a constant support to our officers and fellow telecommunicators, and someone who genuinely cares about the people she serves.

Kaylei’s professionalism, compassion, and willingness to always step up make her an incredible asset to our department and our community. We are so thankful to have her on our team. Congratulations, Kaylei!
