What an incredible Day at the Wetlands!
A huge thank you to all of the presenters, partners, educators, and volunteers who helped make this year’s field day such a special experience for Trinity County 4th grade students. This event has been a community tradition for many years, and it truly would not happen without people willing to share their time, knowledge, and passion with local youth.
The wetlands site is such a special place. Once heavily impacted by mining, it was brought back to life through the work of the Trinity River Restoration Program and now serves as riparian habitat for local wildlife and an amazing outdoor classroom for students.
Throughout the day, students explored macroinvertebrates, learned about wetland ecology, experienced cultural plant education, examined mammal skulls and furs, tried fly fishing, and so much more. Watching kids connect with nature through hands-on learning is always a reminder of why these experiences matter.
Special thanks to:
• Chris Laskodi – Yurok Tribal Fisheries
• James Lee and Eliot Sarnacki - Trinity River Restoration Program
• Simone Groves – Hoopa Valley Tribal fisheries
• Jon Cluff – The Watershed Research and Training Center
• Ted Dawson and Laura Dawson – Wintu Educational and Cultural Council of Northern California

Thank you all again for helping create such a meaningful day for our students and community. We’re already looking forward to next year!
