UPDATE 04/14/2026: DOG HAS BEEN FOUND. Thank you for your help.

Help us find this missing pup. She's a 4-month-old grey/brown chow mix who weighs 25 lbs. She ran away from Hamburg Mountain in Weaverville around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10. She is skiddish, but may come to food. She likes other dogs as well. She's wearing a bright green/yellow collar but does not have tags.

Construction delays can test anyone’s patience, but impatience behind the wheel is where real danger begins. Arriving a few minutes later is always better than not arriving at all. Take a breath, give yourself extra time, and drive like someone’s life depends on it—because it does.

Duke Energy contractor work zone at the intersection of Main Street and Weaver Boulevard

Work will take place on Monday, March 2 & Wednesday, March 4 between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Avoid the area or drive cautiously. Thank you, your patience is appreciated.

We’re feeling it too — this weather caught us off guard.

Roads are slick, visibility is limited, and temperatures are bitterly cold. If you absolutely have to be out, please plan ahead. Give yourself extra time, slow down, increase your following distance, and bundle up.

A little patience and preparation can make all the difference. Stay safe out there. ❄️

🥶❄️ Cold Weather Reminder from the Weaverville Police Department ❄️🥶

With wind chills dropping below zero, it’s seriously cold out there. These temps are life-threatening. Please bring your pets 🐶🐱🐰🐔 indoors where it’s warm and safe. They can watch the snow fall from the sofa. Plus, pet snuggles are sure to warm your heart 🩷 (and maybe your toes, if you can convince them to sit on your cold feet!) Thanks, Weaverville, for continuing to look out for each other and our four-legged friends. 🐾

We love adventure… just not the sliding-into-a-ditch kind. 🚗❄️ Snowy conditions have made travel unsafe today—but the good news is, Weaverville folks are smart. You know when it’s time to hit the road, and when it’s time to hit the couch. Netflix + YouTube > ditches + blue lights.

Staying home today is the wise move. Thanks for using good judgment and helping keep yourselves, your neighbors, and our officers safe.

Many folks are waking up asking, “How are the roads in Weaverville?”
Short answer: not great.
Long answer: snow + wind = not getting better.
If you can, stay home. No need to risk it. This is a perfect day for a good book, a binge-worthy show, or that little project you’ve been putting off. ❄️📺📚

⚠️ Weather Advisory & Police Operations Update ⚠️

Due to severe and rapidly changing weather, the Police Department will transition to emergency-response-only operations this afternoon (or sooner if conditions require).

During this time, officers will respond only to emergency calls, including:
* Incidents where a suspect is currently on scene
* Serious traffic crashes involving injuries or immediate hazards
*Any life threatening situation or public safety hazard

This temporary measure ensures officers are available for life-threatening emergencies and critical public safety needs.

🚗 Disabled or stranded vehicles:
Any vehicle left on the roadside or in a travel lane will be towed by the first available wrecker to keep roadways and the community safe.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we prioritize emergency response during these conditions.. Please avoid unnecessary travel and call 911 only for true emergencies. Stay safe.

From Weaverville Town Manager:
The Town of Weaverville is operating under the Buncombe County State of Emergency, and town offices will be closed on Monday due to inclement weather. Monday’s sanitation route will be rescheduled for Thursday, pending road conditions. We will continue to keep the community informed regarding the resumption of non-essential town services and the reopening of Town offices.
Today is the final day of clear weather to complete preparations. Forecasts have solidified that this weekend’s storm will be primarily an ice storm rather than a snow event, which represents a worst-case scenario for our area. Significant icing will severely impact road conditions and is expected to delay emergency response.
The storm is anticipated to arrive mid-afternoon Saturday, with conditions continuing to deteriorate through early Monday. Ice accumulation in our area is expected to reach approximately ½ inch; historically, as little as ¼ inch of ice has resulted in power outages. Across Buncombe County, ice accumulation is forecast to range from ¼ inch to 1 inch.
An arctic air mass will follow the storm, with daytime temperatures remaining below freezing until at least Tuesday. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain in the teens and single digits through next weekend. Any daytime melting will refreeze overnight, extending hazardous road conditions for several days.
Residents are strongly urged to finalize preparations today and be prepared for extended power outages. Please take this storm seriously and strictly follow basic fire and life safety precautions.
Residents should plan to be self-sustaining through at least Tuesday, including having adequate supplies of food, water, propane, and kerosene.
Residents who rely on oxygen concentrators should ensure they have a minimum of 72 hours of backup oxygen. Please contact your supply company immediately. The Fire Department carries oxygen only for emergency medical treatment and does not provide oxygen cylinders for in-home use.
In the event of an emergency, expect delays in response due to hazardous road conditions and terrain. While Public Works, Public Safety, Fire, and Law Enforcement personnel have increased staffing, responders will also be impacted by the storm, and access may be limited.
Do not heat your home with an oven or any unapproved heating equipment. Use extreme caution when operating kerosene heaters. Never operate generators or gas-powered equipment inside your home, basement, or garage. Carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly.
If you require emergency assistance, dial 911. Please do not call Fire or Police Department office numbers, as administrative lines will not be staffed during the storm.
Please take this advisory seriously and prepare now.
