Christopher John Dorsey: A Life of Service, A Legacy of Love

Asheville, North Carolina, mourns the loss of Christopher John Dorsey, 45, who passed away on March 24, 2026. A devoted family man and a lifelong public servant, Chris leaves behind a community and a family forever marked by his courage and compassion.

Born in Long Island, New York, Chris was raised in Asheville and graduated from Erwin High School. His career in public service began as a junior firefighter with the Woodfin Fire Department, setting the course for a three-decade-long commitment as a firefighter and paramedic. At the time of his passing, Chris served as Fire Chief of the Reems Creek Fire Department and as Assistant Supervisor with Buncombe County Emergency Services. He also served with the Weaverville Fire Department and the Buncombe County Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. His service was characterized by an unwavering dedication to helping others.

Above all, Chris was a deeply loving and devoted father to his three sons, Chase Surrett, Caleb (Hailey) Dorsey, and Caden Dorsey. They were the very heart of his life and his greatest joy. Chris was their constant — a role model, protector, and unwavering supporter — who led by example in all that he did. He instilled in them the importance of hard work, loyalty to family, compassion, and a servant’s heart. His strength, character, and legacy will endure through the love he poured into his sons; they will carry it forward in how they lead, love, and care for others.

Chris also shared his journey of parenthood with Aimee Wiley Dorsey, the mother of his sons. Their relationship was defined by a deep connection and mutual love, with a steadfast commitment to their children that remained the center of their world.

Chris's memory is cherished by his surviving family, including his sons and their mother, his three brothers: Joey Dorsey (Tiffany) of Reems Creek, Vinny Dorsey (Susannah) of Asheville, and Robbie Dorsey of Hendersonville. He will be deeply missed by his many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Robert Dorsey.

Remembered as a loving father, a protective brother, and a true hero, Chris lives on in the lives he saved, the colleagues he served beside, and the community he faithfully protected. As scripture says, "There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).

Services:

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, North Carolina. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, North Carolina. Friends and family are invited to a drop-in event between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to share memories and honor Chris’s life.
