You may have seen the Webster Groves Fire Department in your neighborhood testing fire hydrants.

Hydrants are essential for fighting structure fires, providing a reliable and continuous source of water.

The Fire Department is asking for your help to keep hydrants free of obstruction, including landscaping, shrubs, plants, fences, decorative items and other objects.

The hydrants throughout Webster Groves are owned and maintained by Missouri American Water. Each hydrant is painted with a special reflective coating for visibility in nighttime emergencies. Hydrant colors also indicate the size of the water main and the volume of water available.

Please take a moment to check the hydrant near your home and make sure it has plenty of clearance. Keeping hydrants visible and accessible is a simple way residents can help our firefighters respond quickly and safely.

First responders in Webster Groves are launching a new initiative designed to improve communication and safety for drivers with autism.

The Blue Envelope Program is free and completely voluntary. Participants keep a distinct blue envelope in their vehicle’s glove compartment or visor. The envelope holds a driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance along with a communication card to assist during a traffic stop.

Each program participant will receive an alert sticker for their home and a sensory bag with several items, including a dry erase board, headphones, a stress ball, and fidget spinner.

The Webster Groves Fire Department will also carry sensory bags on all apparatus for individuals who may not be part of the Blue Envelope Program.

Did you know? The Webster Groves Fire Department maintains a dedicated Water Rescue Team equipped with state-certified swift water rescue technicians and a specialized rescue boat deployed via a battalion vehicle.

The unit trains for static and swift water emergencies, including flash floods along Deer Creek and Shady Grove Creek.

Three Webster Groves firefighters participated in training this week on the Missouri River at St. Charles. Matt Lanemann, Dane Mohrmann, and Alec Montgomery learned the basics of operating a Zodiac Milpro inflatable boat and rescue techniques through high intensity drills on the river.

National Night Out was more than just an event – it was a celebration of the partnerships and community spirit that make Webster Groves such a special place to call home.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, as well as our Police Department, Fire Department, city staff, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors who helped make the event a success.

Meet your first responders and enjoy free food and free admission to the Webster Groves Water Park!

Nearly two dozen community partners are offering giveaways and safety information for families in attendance.

The event will feature a large display of trucks and equipment from Police, Fire, Parks, and Public Works along with a helicopter landing from Metro Air Support.

The Webster Groves Fire Department will demonstrate the “jaws of life” rescue tools in a live narrated exercise followed by a police K-9 demonstration with area law enforcement.

Don’t miss this experience! The weather looks perfect with sunny skies and temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s.

The Webster Groves Police Department is inviting the community to the National Night Out celebration at the Benny Gordon Recreation Center.

The free event will take place on Tuesday, August 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family-friendly activities, public safety demonstrations, and opportunities to meet first responders.

Children can explore a wide range of vehicles, including police squad cars, motorcycles, fire apparatus, and public works equipment.

The Metro Air Support Unit is scheduled to land a helicopter at Memorial Park. Guests may also observe a live narrated exercise by the Fire Department, demonstrating the “jaws of life” rescue tools and a police K-9 demonstration.

Nearly two dozen community partners are offering giveaways and safety information for families in attendance.

The Webster Groves Lions Club will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs, while Schnucks is providing free snacks and water. In addition, KVC Health Systems has sponsored a free Kona Ice stand for the event.

All families in attendance receive free admission to the Webster Groves Water Park.

Beyond Webster Groves, many neighboring police departments are participating including those from Shrewsbury, Brentwood, Eureka, Ellisville, Crestwood, and St. Louis County along with federal agencies such as the U.S. Marshals Service, DEA, FBI, and ATF.

The annual Schnucks “Hydrate Our Heroes” beverage drive is supporting Webster Groves Police and Fire along with first responders throughout Missouri and Illinois.

Schnucks collected bottled water and sports drinks at all 112 stores from July 8-14, including the Webster location on Big Bend Blvd.

Missouri American Water continues to make progress on the main replacement along Berry Road at the city limits with Glendale.

The infrastructure upgrade is essential to improve system reliability, reducing the risk of water main breaks and supporting future growth.

Crews are installing a new 24-inch main to replace and consolidate the existing system.

While northbound traffic is currently restricted on Berry Road at West Lockwood Avenue, a full closure of the intersection begins on Monday, July 27.

The closure will allow the utility to excavate the pavement and install the new water main.

Missouri American Water anticipates reopening the intersection on Friday, August 21, weather permitting.

Drivers are adjusting to a full closure of North Elm Avenue near the intersection of Brentwood Boulevard and West Kirkham Avenue.

A culvert replacement project started on Monday, July 20. Crews have been clearing brush and debris from the banks of Shady Grove Creek, in preparation to excavate the existing corrugated metal pipe.

The contractor must replace a sanitary sewer structure before proceeding with the installation of a reinforced concrete box culvert. This culvert will be formed and poured onsite with the capacity to handle additional rainwater during flash flood events.

The roadway will be reconstructed and reopened in mid-December. In the meantime, thru-traffic on Eastbound I-44 should utilize the Laclede Station Road exit.

Follow Laclede Station/Hanley Road to Manchester Road. For local traffic, the signed detour follows Lockwood Avenue, Bompart Avenue, and Newport Avenue.
