The City of Webster Groves is excited to relaunch the Green Our City initiative for Fall 2026.

Applications will be accepted for a two-week window, beginning Monday, August 31, at webstergrovesmo.gov.

Green Our City is a free tree planting stewardship program designed to expand the urban forest canopy.

Residents apply to have a native Missouri tree planted in the public right-of-way near their home at no cost. The program requires a two-year commitment to water and nurture the tree before the City assumes the long-term maintenance.

To become a Tree Steward, complete the online application. City staff will review the submission, visit the site, and call-in utility locates. Residents will be contacted if the right-of-way can accommodate a tree.

As many as 20 sites will be considered for this fall. Tree selection will be based on available stock, and homeowners request whenever applicable. Don't forget to mark any private utilities, such as dog fencing and irrigation systems.

Participants receive a five-gallon watering bucket, gloves, instructions, and a watering reminder magnet to care for the new tree.

Billy Haag is the Forestry Manager and Certified Arborist for Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, a tree planting organization that partners with the City.

Haag shares his enthusiasm for the project in this video along with information about the CommuniTree program for public land and non-profit organizations.

Emily Hixson Shepherd provides an update on two important Prop W projects!

Webster Groves City Council has awarded contracts for a new skate park at the Benny Gordon Recreation Center and renovations at Ivory Crockett Park.

California Skateparks is a nationally recognized firm with more than 20 years of experience, designing and building public skateparks around the country and even internationally.

Work will begin this fall with estimated completion in the Spring of 2027. Initial public input favored a mix of street and transition style elements in a plaza setting.

The project at Ivory Crockett Park includes a new splash pad, shade structure, and year-round comfort station with restrooms, seating walls, and decorating plantings.

Byrne & Jones Construction will be the contractor with the pre-construction phase to begin this month. The target completion date is Memorial Day of 2027.

Check out the progress at Oxford Bend Park with the new pavilion under construction!

The City of Webster Groves is excited to collaborate on this project with Great Rivers Greenway as a destination greenspace and rest stop for trail users.

Part of the expanding Deer Creek Greenway, the park will create new opportunities to walk, bike, and explore the outdoors.

Amenities include a nature exploration and play area, rain gardens, skateable features, a bicycle repair station, water fountain, recycling receptables, solar powered lighting, and more than 30 new trees!

Additionally, the park has been engineered to soak up stormwater to help alleviate flooding from Deer Creek.

Construction began in the fall of 2025 with completion anticipated later this year.

The City of Webster Groves has received a grant totaling more than $385,000 from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

These funds will assist with the removal of invasive species and the re-establishment of riparian corridors. Three sites have been identified for restoration in the Deer Creek Watershed.

The first, Oxford Bend Park, is transforming a former McDonald’s parking lot into a recreational park with native plantings, in collaboration with Great Rivers Greenway. Work continues at the site along Big Bend Boulevard near the city limits with Maplewood.

The other two sites are Shady Creek Nature Sanctuary along Kirkham Avenue and Deer Creek near the Marshall Avenue Trailhead.

Over the next three years, the grant provides a tremendous opportunity to improve water quality, restore natural areas, and engage the community in the stewardship of our local watershed.

Be on the lookout for volunteer events to remove invasive bush honeysuckle and replant trees, shrubs, and native plants. This project will require a grassroots effort from our community.
