Today we had our annual Webster Fraternal Order of Police Breakfast at Point Breeze. It’s a great opportunity for some of our retired officers and families to see some old friends and current members.

We also recognize officers who have reached certain milestones with their years of service to the Department.

Chief Shaw and Webster FOP President Sergeant Mroczek recognized Officer Robert Rockwood for having 10 years with the Webster Police, and Officers James Young Jr. and Joshua Collins for each having 20! Time flies.

Officers Alex Johnson, David Brooks and Nicholas Caruso have each served 5 years with the Webster Police Department. Unfortunately, they were unable to attend.

Congratulations to all, and thank you to AJ and his staff for all their hard work this morning!

Joint Agency Investigation Leads to Recovered Illegal Firearm and Stolen Dirt Bike

On Tuesday, May 5th, the Douglas Police Department contacted Webster Police Detectives regarding a dirt bike that had been stolen from a residence in Douglas. Through a joint-agency investigation by DPD and WPD, Detectives & Officers were able to identify several individuals who were believed to have been involved in the theft. This led Investigators to an apartment on Maynard Ave in Webster, where a shooting had occurred less than two years prior. It was suspected the stolen dirt bike had been concealed in a basement at this multi-family address.

On Wednesday, May 6th, at approximately 12:20 am, WPD Detectives and Officers assigned to the overnight shift, along with DPD Officers, executed a court ordered search warrant, ultimately locating the stolen dirt bike. The following day, WPD evening shift Officers located and stopped a vehicle that also had been used in connection with the theft. Ms. Maria Lozada, who had a warrant for her arrest, was taken into custody during this motor vehicle stop. Additionally, Mr. Angelo Cruz, was also placed under arrest for his involvement with the theft of the dirt bike.

Later that day, around 5:47 pm, another court ordered search warrant was conducted for the apartment the suspects had been staying at on Maynard Ave. During the course of the search, Officers located a loaded Sig Sauer P365 9mm hand-gun, crack co***ne and fentanyl. The firearm was not properly stored and was in close proximity of where an infant had previously been sleeping. Other various items that had been used in the initial B&E in Douglas were also located. No one residing in this apartment had a valid License to Carry Fi****ms in any state. Additionally, one of the individuals residing in the apartment, Mr. Jose Lozada, has open fi****ms charges stemming from the shooting in 2024.

As a result of this investigation, the following individuals were charged:

Angelo Cruz, 21, Olga Ave, Worcester – Charges: Receiving Stolen Property over $1200, Possession of Ammunition without an FID, Ammunition Unattended, Possession of a Firearm without an FID card, Reckless Behavior Causing Risk to a Child, Improper Storage of a Firearm. Mr. Cruz is also being charged by the Douglas Police Department with: B&E Night Time for a Felony, Unarmed Burglary, Vandalize Property, Larceny from a Building, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Mr. Cruz was previously found guilty of fi****ms offenses in 2025.

Maria Lozada, 24, Dorchester St., Worcester – Charges: Warrant, Receiving Stolen Property over $1200, Possession of a Firearm without an FID card, Possession of Ammunition without an FID, Ammunition Unattended, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Reckless Behavior Causing Risk to a Child.

Jose Lozada, 25, Maynard Ave, Webster – Charges: Receiving Stolen Property over $1200, Possession of Ammunition without an FID, Ammunition Unattended, Possession of a Firearm without an FID card, Reckless Behavior Causing Risk to a Child, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Class A Drug (Fentanyl), Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack Co***ne). Mr. Lozada is currently on probation for fi****ms and drug distribution offenses from 2024.

This was an excellent effort by both Webster and Douglas Police Departments, and a true example of outstanding investigatory teamwork. We are grateful for our relationships with all of our law enforcement partners, local, state, and federal.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Over the last several years, we’ve had numerous buoys stolen or damaged over the summer. This year, thanks to Officer/Harbormaster Pat Trainor, Detective/Assistant Harbormaster Tim Whiting, and the best Building Maintenance Technician Eric Hinchcliffe, we’ve fabricated new markers to replace the broken/damaged ones in hopes they’ll be a better solution.

We’ll be putting them in today with a huge assist from our public safety partners at Webster Fire/Rescue for the season.

Thank you all for hard work in mixing concrete, loading, and placing these markers to help ensure a safe boating season. I’d also like to thank Pete’s Tire for donating the tires for the bases.

Wishing everyone a safe boating season!

Over the last few weeks, the Webster Police Department collected various items that will be shipped overseas to a current Webster resident, and his unit, who is deployed with the U.S. Army. Today, several of our Officers and staff members packaged those items and they will soon be shipped out.

We’d like to thank every single one of you who donated to this great cause! Also, thank you to Deputy Chief Wentworth, Lieutenant Trainor, Officer Young Jr., Officer Rockwood, Officer Johnson and our Social Advocate Genduso for helping pack these boxes!

Kudos to Chief Woodson for articulating the frustrations many of us feel. Very well written and I hope that this is the catalyst for some progress towards everyone in the criminal justice system being held to the same standards the police are.
