We are saddened to share the loss of one of our own. Philip Vanderlee passed away peacefully on Monday following a courageous battle with cancer. Phil has been a volunteer firefighter for over 5 decades, serving with us at West Webster for the past 46 years. Prior to us, he also served with the Barnard Fire Department and the Nicoma Park Fire Department in Oklahoma. Phil was also a Vietnam Veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force.

Phil was an avid member of our fire prevention team. Many may remember him assisting with the EDITH house at our open house for several years. He also conducted numerous fire prevention visits for schools and youth groups, along with station tours over the years.

Outside of the firehouse, Phil was very committed to the Boy Scouts, volunteering in many different capacities over the years.

Those who knew Phil would tell you he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all.

Rest easy brother, we’ll take it from here.

The West Webster Fire Department would like to thank everyone who attended our Open House on the 4th! It was a beautiful day—both weather-wise and attendance-wise. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and learned a few things about fire safety.

We would also like to thank the many other organizations that participated. Each of you brought something special to the event, helping to raise important public awareness.

Even though the Bills didn't win, we did run out of fried cakes, so we count that as a successful day! Thank you all for a great time.
