In addition, the Barre Town Fire Department provides first response coverage to the Town of Orange and heavy rescue response to several others.

The Barre Town Fire Department is comprised of two stations, East Barre and South Barre that directly serve a population of 7,924 residents in a sprawling 19,328-acre rural community. a bedroom community mainly comprised of single and multi-family dwellings but does have significant industrial uses being home to Rock of Ages Granite Quarries along with commercial uses in our many villages and along both the Rt. 302 and 14 corridors. The Barre Town Fire Department is a founding member of the Capital Fire Mutual Aid System and as such provides mutual aid response to several other neighboring communities.

Public Service Announcement…….. kind of🤷🏻‍♂️

Last night… things got out of hand.

I fell asleep like a normal person…
…and woke up in a full-blown BBQ dimension.

👀 I’m sitting on a throne… made entirely of chicken.
Not just any chicken… perfectly grilled, golden, glistening like it pays taxes in flavor.

🌫️ The breeze?
Not wind.
Pure, slow-rolling charcoal smoke drifting through the air like it’s got somewhere important to be.

🎶 In the distance… a choir…
Except it’s not singing…
…it’s just the sound of perfect sizzling chicken in harmony.
Honestly? Kinda beautiful. Kinda concerning.

Then… out of the smoke…
🍗 A knight appears.
Armor made of foil.
Cape made of napkins.
Holding a drumstick like it’s Excalibur.

He kneels…
leans in…
and whispers:
“June 21st… noon to 2…”

I nod… because obviously this is serious business.

Then suddenly—
I’m at a table…
juice running down my hands…
trying to decide if I need more napkins or just accept my fate.

I wake up.

No throne.
No knight.
No chicken.

Just me… staring at the ceiling…
hungry… confused…
and maybe checking my hands just to be sure.

You’ve probably seen it… departments across the country are facing a shortage of volunteer firefighters.

Truth is… Barre Town isn’t immune either.

We feel it on the long nights.
We feel it when the tones drop and we could use a few more boots walking through the door.

But here’s the difference…

We don’t sit around hoping someone else steps up.
Around here, we step up for each other.

This department is built on regular people doing extraordinary things.
People with full-time jobs, families, responsibilities… who still make the time to train, respond, and serve their community.

And yeah… it’s serious work.

But it’s also:

* Laughing way too hard at the station after training
* Learning skills you never thought you’d have
* Becoming part of a crew that has your back no matter what

No experience? We’ll teach you.
Nervous? Most of us were too at the start.
Think you’re not cut out for it? You might surprise yourself.

All it takes is one decision…
to stop watching from the sidelines and step into something that matters.

Stop by the station on a Monday night.
Talk to us. Ask questions. See what it’s really about.

Because Barre Town Fire Department isn’t looking for superheroes…
just good people willing to answer the call.

And we could use you.

What a great day we had at Barre Town Middle and Elementary School for the annual Touch-a-Truck and end-of-year celebration!

There’s nothing better than seeing the excitement on kids’ faces as they climb through the fire trucks, check out the equipment, and even try on some of our gear. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do—serving the community and connecting with the next generation.

It was just as rewarding for us as it was for them. Putting smiles on those faces is truly one of the best parts of being a firefighter.

We also sent three members to the Twin State Fire School where they all completed their classes and are bringing back their new knowledge to help serve the Town of Barre.

Now that we are in June, we are just a few weeks away from our annual Fathers Day Chicken BBQ to be held at the East Barre Fire Station on June 21. We hope to see you there.
