PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, the Wedowee Police Department responded to Randolph County High School in regard to an allegation that David Burkhalter, a 30 year old, male teacher at the school was having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old female student.

The Wedowee Police Department along with the assistance of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department immediately initiated an investigation. Investigators determined the accusations were credible and that probable cause existed for an arrest.

Warrants were executed, and Mr. Burkhalter turned himself in to law enforcement on the morning of Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Mr. Burkhalter is being held in the Randolph County Jail on eight (8) felony counts: two counts of R**e in the Second Degree, one count of So**my in the Second Degree, one count of Enticing a Child, two counts of Electronic Solicitation of a Child for S*x, and two counts of School Employee S*x Act with Student Less than 19 years of age.

Mr. Burkhalter is currently being held in the Randolph County Jail on a $1,000,000.00 bond pending further hearing.

Law enforcement is working alongside the Office of the District Attorney and the Randolph County School Board to ensure all pertinent steps are taken to ensure a thorough investigation and a successful prosecution of this matter. Anyone who has any information regarding this investigation, please notify your local law enforcement agency. This investigation is open and ongoing. Inmate Hendrix has been located and is back in custody. He was arrested at a residence on Louina Road in Roanoke after information from a tipster. We would like to thank the RCSO Deputies, both K-9 Officers,Investigators, Randolph County DTF , Roanoke PD and Wedowee Pd for the assistance. Working together makes this profession a lot easier. PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

On Monday, February 26, 2018, Wedowee Police Department was called to the Randolph-Roanoke Career Technology Center located in Wedowee, Alabama in regards to an alleged verbal threat made by a student in a classroom.

The student was immediately detained by school officials after the alleged verbal threat was made and law enforcement was alerted. Wedowee Police Department responded immediately. The school was never placed in lockdown because the student was immediately apprehended. Upon further investigation by the Wedowee Police Department, the student was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats. There were no weapons found on campus.

This is an isolated incident, and the suspect has been arrested. As a result, there is no known danger to the school in relation to this incident at this time. This investigation is open and ongoing. Wedowee Police Department is working diligently with the Office of the District Attorney for Randolph County. For any updates please contact the Assistant District Attorneys Office.

The Wedowee Police Department would like to say that threats of any kind will not be tolerated nor will they be taken lightly. In light of the recent school shootings in Parkland, Florida, please take the time to speak to your children and explain to them that if they make a verbal threat towards a school, classmate, or teacher, they are in violation of the law.

Yesterday afternoon inmate Shannon Gregory Hendricks white male 41 yrs old walk away from his work detail assignment. Hendricks was scheduled to be released next month from jail. Investigators have been running down leads in an attempt to try and apprehend the subject. Hendricks has family in Roanoke area and also Girlfriend in Talladega Al. He is not considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has any information on this subject please notify 911 or call 256-357-4126. Thanks for your help and God Bless.
