On Thursday, August 14, the W**d City Council will consider "Resolution No. 25-2025 declaring 150 Alamo Ave. [the W**d Library building] as surplus property." This would be the first step in the process of selling the building. The W**d Library Staff have been told that, in the event of the sale, they intend to relocate the library, but no specific plans have been shared.

We have had the opportunity over the years to hear from patrons how much they love many of the unique things about our library, including our drive-thru, our separate children's space, and our central location, and we think it's important the City Council now has the opportunity to hear from the community as well.

The City Council meeting will be at 5:30pm at 550 Main Street in W**d and the full agenda is available on the city's website. https://www.ci.weed.ca.us/

The W**d Library is open today (12-5pm) but our public computers and Wi-Fi are temporarily unavailable. County IT is working on an issue that appears to be affecting all of our branches. Thank you for your patience.

The drawing for our quilt raffle will be Tuesday, December 10! The winner will receive this lovely quilt made by one of our local patrons. There is still time to buy tickets ($5 a piece or 5 tickets for $20). We also have some beautiful classics for sale, which would make great holiday gifts.
Our hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12pm to 5pm.
We will be CLOSED December 24 and 25.

The W**d Library will be hosting Read Across Siskiyou on Wednesday November 13 at 1PM. Bring your kids by to listen to Big Dance, by Aiofe Greenham, which will be read by a guest reader!

The W**d Library is raffling off another beautiful quilt made by local patron, Barbara Hegdal. Her latest project "My Kinda Town," even features a Library with a drive-thru! Tickets are $5 (or 5 tickets for $20). The drawing will be in mid-December (TBA). We're so thankful for the support of our wonderful community.

The W**d Branch is open Tuesday through Friday from 12pm to 5pm.

Thank you to all those who attended our community meeting for feedback on ways to make the W**d Library more accessible. It was fun and productive! We will continue to ask for input as we go forward and welcome new ideas.

And thank you to those patrons who couldn't make it to the meeting, but gave us feedback over the phone or in person. We're grateful to have such an engaged and thoughtful community.

Our community meeting to discuss our grant opportunity and accessibility issues at the W**d Public Library is scheduled for Wednesday April 17, 2024 from 11:00 am to noon. It will be held at the Library, at 150 Alamo Avenue.

We will be discussing:
1. What are some challenges you have experienced accessing services at the W**d Library?

and

2. What changes can be made to address those challenges and better access your rural library?

The W**d Library is excited to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the American Library Association's Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities initiative!

We are working to make the library more accessible and are seeking input from our community. We will be hosting a Community Conversation in April (date TBA), but welcome feedback at any time. Please bring your suggestions to the W**d Library (Monday through Friday from 12pm to 5pm), and you're welcome to email us at [email protected].

Our focus is on issues related to disability access, but we want to hear about any issues that create obstacles to enjoying your rural public library.
