LSFD provided two Wildland Type 3 engines and personnel to aid with a training burn for the FF1/FF2 COS Academy on March 16th. Not only is this training crucial to all involved, it also cleaned up ground debris that can potentially carry fire into the city of W**d.

This morning at 4:59 AM Lake Shastina Fire was dispatched to a structure fire on Coyote Ct. Engine 3110 arrived first at scene to find a multi-story residential structure with heavy smoke showing. Engine 3110 crew began an offensive fire attack and quickly suppressed the flames throughout the structure. Even with the quick fire attack the home is heavily damaged and the residents are currently displaced and have lost most of their belongings.

LSFD would like to thank W**d City Fire and Cal Fire Siskiyou for assisting our crew. Their hardwork and the mutual aid system is always appreciated.

Lake Shastina Fire crews were also the last to leave the scene which did not happen until 8:15 PM! Over 15 hours of keeping an eye on the structure to assure that it is 100% out.

Will local emergency services be able to find your street address easily? The picture on the left is what we should see as we arrive to your location. Clear visible/reflective address signs. The picture on the right? Well, those homeowners should order a new address sign installed by one of our dedicated personnel. The cost is $50 and the process is easy. Call either the Lake Shastina Police or Fire Department

Engine 3110 and crew prepare for strike team assignment to the Gifford fire in central California. This will be the first assignment for our new type 3 engine. As part of strike team 3200 Charlie, LSFD engine 3110 will be joined by 4 other Siskiyou county engines for the long journey to San Luis Obispo county.
LSFD is also staffing our OES 8331 as part of a task force with, Redding city, Chico city, and two other regional fire departments. LSFD wishes our firefighters safe travels and safe return. We appreciate the dedication and professionalism each firefighter has demonstrated to our community and state.

Wildland fire season started early June for the LSFD fire department with a half dozen local fires. Our firefighters gained valuable experience responding and working these 1 to 15 acre fires.

On July 12, Engine 3118 was deployed to the Green fire near Lake Shasta. Engine operator Nathan Ades, Swamper Conner Thomas and FF’s Toby Medina and Landon Loudenburg have been working hard, through very steep terrain helping control this over 16,000 acre fire.

On July 15, Our OES Engine 8331 was also dispatched to the same fire as part of a strike team of OES engines from Redding city, Chico city, Quincy and Susanville departments. From all accounts, Operator Nathan Pappas, Swamper Rob Dibella and FF’s Trevor Pfaffenbach and Christian Cerezo have also encountered steep challenging terrain with lots of hiking.

All of us at LSFD and local community members want to thank our firefighters for their commitment and hard work.

June was a very busy month for LSFD. We responded to a total of 6 local vegetation fires. We are excited to announce that Engine 3110, our new Type 3 wildland engine has fought its first fire. Engine 3110 was ordered in October of 2021 and delivery was October of 2024. After 6 months of working out some bugs, kinks, and getting the engine fully equipped we put it in service in June of 2025.

The community of Lake Shastina should be very proud of your firefighters. We currently have the station staffed with 7 live-in firefighters (2 Paramedic FF), 1 Captain, 1 Chief and numerous volunteers who live inside the community.

When responding to fires surrounding our community, LSFD is often the first engine at scene beginning suppression before many resources arrive.

On Saturday 3/29/2025 at approximately 8:00 a.m. the Lake Shastina fire department responded to a potential illegal burn pile within the Lake Shastina development. Upon arrival, our firefighters noticed light steam coming from a newly produced chip pile. Being warm to the touch, firefighters Ade and Thomas helped the concerned homeowner knock the pile down, spreading the chips out and eliminating any further potential of heat build up.

While we all work hard to reduce fuel loads around our properties, it’s important to remember that given the right circumstances (green vegetation, moisture, pressure and a little bit of time) a chip pile can decompose to a point of producing significant heat.

In most cases the likelihood of your chip pile catching fire and producing visible flames is relatively low. However, it’s always best practice to not build chip piles too high. Spread your piles out into small rows no more than 12” high 24” wide and continue to monitor.

We give high praise to our homeowner who took the initiative to create defensible space around his home and for being vigilant by calling the fire department when they noticed something not right with their 3 day old chip pile.
