Today, the Weir Fire Department took delivery of 2 battery powered chainsaws, a windshield removal kit, and a heavy duty battery powered ram which is used in vehicle extrication. These tools enhance our capabilities to serve and protect the citizens of our community more swiftly and safely.

These vital tools were purchased with grant funds that are also going to fund some building repairs and updates. We are continually working to improve our capabilities in order to offer the best protection possible!

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

As families and friends gather this holiday weekend, we ask everyone to help keep our roads safe. Please buckle up, drive distraction-free, and never drive impaired. Whether alcohol, drugs, or prescription medication are involved, impaired driving puts everyone at risk.

Law Enforcement will be working throughout the holiday weekend to promote occupant safety and remove impaired drivers from our roadways.

✔️ Wear your seatbelt
✔️ Designate a sober driver
✔️ Slow down and stay alert
✔️ Arrive alive

Let’s honor the memory of our fallen heroes by protecting one another and making safety a priority this Memorial Day weekend.

If you get a text saying the Driver Service Bureau is going to suspend your license, cancel your vehicle registration, or demanding immediate payment… it’s a SCAM!

DSB will not text you threatening suspension or asking you to click random links to pay fees.

This week, we proudly recognize and honor the dedicated men and women of Choctaw County 911 Dispatch during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week for the vital role they play in keeping our community safe. They are the calm voice in moments of crisis, the steady hand guiding both citizens and first responders through emergencies, and the unseen heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Their professionalism, compassion, and commitment do not go unnoticed. Every call they answer could be someone’s worst day, yet they meet each one with patience, strength, and unwavering focus. Our officers and firefighters depend on them, and our community is safer because of them.

To our Choctaw County 911 Dispatchers: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your dedication. We are proud to stand beside you.

🖤💙🖤 Our hearts and prayers go out to the Jackson County Sheriff’s office, as well as; the family and friends of Deputy Jimerson!🙏🏼

On Wednesday evening, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a noise disturbance at an apartment complex in St. Martin, Mississippi. Deputy Mike Jimerson was first to arrive, and encountered a female suspect armed with a handgun. A foot pursuit ensued, with the pair exchanging gunfire with each other. The female was killed at the scene. Deputy Jimerson was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

61-year old Deputy Mike Jimerson began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a volunteer reserve deputy in 2010, until being hired part-time in the Patrol Division in 2014. Even while working a full-time career during the day, he spent his nights in uniform, keeping the citizens of Jackson County safe.

Mike was known for his calm demeanor, service-first mindset, and had never received a complaint during his tenure with the JCSO. He developed connections with the community and with the men and women that worked along side him. Sheriff Ledbetter stated the younger deputies looked up to him as the gold standard and his decade-and-a-half as a deputy couldn’t be overstated. In his free time, Mike loved being on the water, especially out at Horn Island, his second home, where he was happiest. Some of his best memories were made there, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Deputy Jimerson leaves behind a loving wife, two children and three grandchildren. Mike’s son is also a law enforcement officer at another agency and served with his father at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

🚩 EXTREME FIRE DANGER THIS WEEKEND 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of Mississippi this Saturday. Conditions are primed for "explosive fire growth."

The Forecast:

💨 Winds: 10–20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

📉 Humidity: Dropping as low as 20%.

🔥 Impact: In these dry, windy conditions, any fire that starts will spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

The safest move: Do not attempt any outdoor burning. 🚫 Whether it’s a small debris pile or a burn barrel, one gust of wind can carry an ember over a half-mile away.

Please help us protect our homes, our forests, and our first responders. Wait for conditions to improve before you light that match.

Please, do not conduct and outside burning. Please be cautious when working with tools that could cause a spark also.
