On 6/1/2026 at approximately 9:40 am, Weldon Fire Department was dispatched to the 1100 block of Elm Street in reference to a structure fire. Weldon Truck 1 and Engine 1 arrived on scene in under 3 minutes to find a commercial tire shop heavily involved. Our paid staff and volunteers alike, as well as volunteers from Halifax Fire Department, immediately went to work to extinguish the fire. The fire was marked under control in approximately 15 minutes. No injuries were reported, 3 people living on the property were displaced due to power meter being pulled. We would like to thank Halifax Fire Department, Weldon Police Department, Halifax County Sherriffs Office, and Halifax County EMS for their assistance with this incident.

There’s a weight to this flag that most people never see.
For decades, she’s been carried from ladder to ladder, across Halifax and surrounding counties, raised high above streets —steady, familiar, and always respected. She’s been there on some of the hardest days… stretched across the sky as we stood at attention, honoring soldiers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMS brothers and sisters who gave everything. In those moments, she isn’t just fabric—she’s memory, sacrifice, and a final salute.
We don’t take that lightly.
As the bearers of the flag, it’s our responsibility to make sure she’s always placed right, secured tight, and presented with the honor and dignity she deserves. Every strap checked. Every angle right. Every time. Because what she represents is bigger than any one of us.
But she’s not just there for the hard days.
She’s been raised over laughter and handshakes at National Night Out. She’s waved over community outreach events, kids pointing up in awe. She’s stood tall over nearly every Independence Day celebration—reminding us why we gather, why we celebrate, and why we serve.
That’s the balance of it all.
Through loss and through joy… she flies.
And that’s what America’s about. 🇺🇸
