Thank you commissioner Wallace and District 3 for coming out quickly to mark guardrail that is now missing. We had a single vehicle accident at this location today and thankfully the loan occupant walked away from what was very close to being a very bad tragedy. Definitely had some guardian angels out today.

⚠️ TRAFFIC SAFETY NOTICE – LOCUST ROAD ⚠️

Please use caution while traveling on Locust Road east of Bryant Road.

A vehicle accident damaged and removed the guardrail on the south side of the roadway. Traffic cones have been placed in the area to alert motorists and mark the hazard until the guardrail can be replaced.

Please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution when traveling through this area.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to make the necessary repairs.

We are on the scene of a two vehicle accident on Locust Road between 210 Road and 220 Road. Everyone is OK. The driver of one of the vehicles took off on foot headed west on Locust Road. If anyone see a woman walking along Locust Road, 210 or on Dustin Road/Highway 124. Please call the sheriffs office and let them know .

We would like to introduce everyone to our new(to us)Fire Engine. Tanker 305. T-5 is a 2000 gallon pumper/tanker that is replacing our very first tanker which was 1500 gallons and had an electric/pull start.

This is a huge improvement to our department That will strengthen our structure fire fighting abilities for our community and to mutual aid with local departments.

It will be second out truck on any structure fire behind our pumper plus give us a second pumper if our main one is ever down so there is always coverage.

With our 2500 gallon Tanker, 304, we can have 5500 gallons of water on scene.

With our first 305 having so much meaning and history to our department and honoring our first Chief, Stanley Page, you’ll see in the video the special nod we put on our new 305 to always remember.

This is such a blessing for us and we are very excited and grateful to be able to purchase it.

Just after 3:15 this afternoon, July 12th, we received call of a single vehicle accident 1/4 mile north of Locust rd(Dads corner) on Dustin Rd. The vehicle left the roadway flipping and landing on its side with occupant unable to get out. We are very thankful the elder gentleman will be ok with only some cuts and bruises. Thank you to the first ones on scene that helped him get out of the vehicle. Also thank you to EMSAT for transporting him and Okmulgee Sheriffs and OHP. The driver had a medical condition that contributed to the accident and again we are so thankful it wasn’t any worse than it was and he’ll be ok.

Today we took Plainview 305 out of service and Into retirement. This truck represents so much to our dept. Our very first Tanker, built by men In this community dedicated to see our dept grow into something great for our community. It represents Bill Miller, Carl VanMeter, Pete Hill, Rick Pippin, David Bullard and our first Fire Chief, Stanley Page, It was his baby. So while it’s bittersweet, it is time to move forward. We will announce our new addition at a later time. I was a little emotional today as I did final sign off because of all the good men who made it happen. Thanks again Plainview Tanker 305.

We definitely had some very strong winds as did much of the state overnight. This post by Mike Collier could explain what it will be classified as. Although, we had much higher winds than the 4 Mesonet sights closer to us read. In our fire district we had wide spread tree damage, with several trees uprooted, a few roads had to be cleared by Okfuskee County District 3(Thank You). Only major damage that we know of was a barn destroyed near Locust and 220.

DERECHO UPDATE

The overnight line of storms is now being preliminarily classified as a derecho following discussions between the National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center.

A derecho is more than just a severe thunderstorm complex. To earn that classification, the storm system must produce:

• At least 5 significant severe wind gusts (70+ mph)
• A damage path extending at least 250 miles
• A continuous or semi-continuous line of storms producing widespread wind damage

Mesonet observations across Oklahoma showed numerous wind gusts over 60 mph, with some locations topping 80 mph and even exceeding 100 mph. The result was widespread tree damage, power outages, and wind-related impacts across portions of the state.

While tornadoes often get the most attention, derechos can produce damage over a much larger area and impact millions of people in a single event.

We wanted to take a moment and address the concerns of our community about the recent increase in accidents on State Highway 124(Dustin Rd. And 200 Rd in Okmulgee Co.)

We have had 5 multi-vehicle collisions in the Last 3 months on this road, plus 4 others in the last 2 years. This is very concerering to us.

People driving way to fast is a huge problem, just as it is on every country strait away in the state. While speeding played a role in a couple of those wrecks, others were not.
Not paying attention or being distracted Is a huge role as well.

We even have all our trucks out working at the station and people fly by.

The most important roll we can all play is simply being very attentive drivers and most importantly be a defensive driver always watching out for others.

Here’s a simple defensive driving mindset:

“Drive like everyone else might make a mistake.”

That one habit alone can prevent a lot of accidents.

We have been in contact with local officials and they are all concerned as well and will help how is deemed most appropriate.

People will always speed and break the Law.

We just have to be the best version of ourselves
And do our part to control what we can and watch out for others.

We love our community and want everyone that lives here and passes through to be safe.

We wanted to share some solid defensive driving safety tips that can help prevent accidents and keep you and others safer on the road:

Stay Focused
• Keep your eyes moving and scan far ahead, not just the car in front of you.
• Avoid distractions like texting, eating, or adjusting controls while driving.
• Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” mode if possible.

Maintain Safe Following Distance
• Use the “3-second rule” in normal conditions.
• Increase to 5–6 seconds in rain, fog, heavy traffic, or when towing.

Expect Mistakes From Other Drivers
• Assume other drivers may:
• Run stop signs
• Change lanes suddenly
• Brake unexpectedly
• Fail to use turn signals
• Always leave yourself an escape route.

Watch Intersections Carefully
• Most accidents happen at intersections.
• Look left-right-left before proceeding, even on a green light.
• Slow slightly when approaching busy intersections.

Control Your Speed
• Drive at a speed safe for conditions, not just the posted limit.
• Slow down in rain, fog, construction zones, or heavy traffic.

Use Mirrors Often
• Check mirrors every few seconds.
• Know your blind spots and turn your head before changing lanes.

Signal Early
• Use turn signals well before turning or changing lanes.
• This gives other drivers time to react safely.

Keep a Cushion Around Your Vehicle
• Avoid driving boxed in by other vehicles.
• Try to maintain open space on at least one side.

Be Extra Careful Around Large Vehicles
• Stay out of truck blind spots.
• Don’t cut closely in front of semis or buses.
• Remember large vehicles need more stopping distance.

Drive Smoothly
• Avoid sudden braking, sharp turns, and rapid acceleration.
• Smooth driving gives others more time to react.

Adjust for Weather
• In rain:
• Slow down
• Use headlights
• Avoid cruise control
• In fog:
• Use low beams
• Increase following distance

Never Drive Drowsy
• If you’re struggling to keep your eyes open, pull over safely.
• Fatigue can impair driving as badly as alcohol.

Watch for Pedestrians and Motorcycles
• Double-check before turning or changing lanes.
• Motorcycles can appear farther away than they are.

Keep Your Vehicle Maintained
• Check:
• Tire pressure
• Brakes
• Lights
• Wipers
• Poor maintenance can create dangerous situations.

Stay Calm
• Avoid road rage and aggressive driving.
• Don’t engage with angry drivers.
• Let impatient drivers pass.

Always Wear Your Seatbelt
• Make sure every passenger buckles up too.
• Seatbelts greatly reduce injury risk in crashes.

Congratulations to Captain Brandon Wright on his retirement after 25 years of dedicated service. Many of our long tenured firefighters here at Plainview VFD had the opportunity to work fire scenes and do trainings with Brandon when he was with Henryetta Fire Department the first few years of his career. Thank you Brandon for all you’ve done for the Henryetta and Tulsa Communities. We wish you the best and Pray the Lord be with you and strengthen you for many years to come.
