Massachusetts Against the Individual Mandate

Massachusetts Against the Individual Mandate Massachusetts citizens who are working on a ballot initiative to repeal the individual mandate

We seek to repeal the individual mandate which requires that Massachusetts citizens buy health insurance or pay a tax penalty. The ballot initiative process requires us to get almost 69,000 signatures by mid-November; if the Legislature does not adopt our proposal, we have to get another 11,000 MA voters to sign so that this will appear as a ballot question on the 2012 state ballot.

In a surprise to no one, MA is looking at cutting costs by forcing doctors to ration care. The flat-fee payments provide a huge disincentive to treat patients who need a lot of care to survive (such as preemies), and the Legislature is already looking at undermining the teaching hospitals. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/18/us/massachusetts-tries-to-rein-in-its-health-care-cost.html?_r=1&hp

After passing a landmark health bill, Massachusetts is now looking to become the first state to radically change the way health care providers are paid.
