Good morning Wellfleet

Crews have been out all night keeping the roads clear for emergency personnel and travel. Now that the snow is subsiding a bit (ocean effect will linger until approx. 4-5 PM) - we continue to clear roads throughout town including buildings and sidewalks.

As a result of this, the Transfer Station will be closed for the day and will reopen tomorrow.

If you have questions or concerns please call 508-349-0315 or email [email protected]. Parking ban remains in effect on Main Street until 5 PM. Thank you.

Kudos to Transfer Station Foreman, Mike Cicale for participating in this year's "Fix-It Clinic" held at the Wellfleet Public Library. This is a great event to connect with the community and help residents fix various gadgets. It's also a great opportunity to learn some fix-it skills. Great work Mike!

We encourage folks to attend/tune in to the February 20, 2024 Selectboard meeting for an update from MassDOT on the two Rt 6 projects commencing concurrently in Wellfleet. Below please find a summary based on project schedules received thus far (Please note that these projects have to comply with the summer construction moratorium so no work will be conducted from Memorial Day to Labor day although we may seek approval to conduct work in June to maintain project momentum):

(First project) Rt 6/Main Street Intersection Project (607397-122605) Way 68 to Main Street Intersection including a segment past the intersection to just beyond Seaman's Bank

Winter/Spring 2024 - Construction will commence with smaller tasks such as the installation of advanced warning signs and message boards. Tree protection and erosion controls will be implemented. Also, crews will begin to prune, clear and grub areas along Main street and Rt 6 to prepare for roadway work. I don't anticipate major traffic impediments or lane closures during this phase, although that is subject to change.

Fall 2024 - Spring 2026 - More substantial work will commence including the headwall/tide gate replacement on Main street. The installation and/or relocation of various underground/overhead utilities will begin with a heavy focus on drainage infrastructure which could lead to traffic delays and/or lane closures/detours. The utility work will continue until the Spring of 2026. Expect traffic delays during this phase, including but not limited to lane closures, alternating traffic lanes and detours.

Spring 2026 - Fall 2031 - This phase will include roadway reconstruction, sidewalk/curbs and shoulder work and traffic signal replacement. With ultimate project closeout anticipated late Fall of 2031. Expect traffic delays during this phase, including but not limited to lane closures, alternating traffic lanes and detours.

(Second Project) Rt 6 Pavement Preservation Project (609098-124020) Eastham/Wellfleet Town Line to Way 68

Winter/Spring 2024 - Construction will commence with the installation of advanced warning signs and message boards. Underground/overhead utilities will be installed or relocated as necessary. Drainage infrastructure will also be installed. Expect traffic delays during this phase, including but not limited to lane closures, alternating traffic lanes and detours.

Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 -3 Rapid flashing beacons will be installed at Wellfleet Cinemas, Old County Road and Cove Road. Expect traffic delays during this phase, including but not limited to lane closures, alternating traffic lanes and detours.

Spring 2025 - Fall 2026 - This phase will include roadway reconstruction, sidewalk/curbs and shoulder work. With ultimate project closeout anticipated late Fall of 2026. Expect traffic delays during this phase, including but not limited to lane closures, alternating traffic lanes and detours.

Please also be advised that these are estimated dates that are subject to change. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact the DPW at 508-349-0315

01/26/2024

During late winter/early spring of 2024 the Rt 6 Main Street Intersection project will commence work with preliminary clearing, grubbing and utility work along Main Street and portions of Route 6. We will continue to update the website during construction in the event of potential road closures and/or detours so the public can plan accordingly. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the DPW office at 508-349-0315 and we will be able to assist you or direct your message to the appropriate MassDOT staff member. Thank you for your cooperation!

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lenny Federico, a 10+ year veteran of the seasonal summer staff at the Transfer Station. Lenny brought so much charisma to the TS and was always viewed as the "celebrity" up there. He was positive, funny, helpful and reliable. We are forever grateful for his service and dedication to the Town of Wellfleet and may he rest in peace. RIP Lenny - you were one of a kind and will be greatly missed. - Wellfleet DPW

DPW Update #1 Hurricane Lee 💨🌊

The DPW is actively preparing for the impending storm by clearing storm drains, fueling generators/equipment and implementing flood/erosion control measures at various locations. As the storm progresses, we will have staff stationed at the DPW and/or on call for emergencies. Please make note of the following:

1. We have secured 500 sand bags. They will be stored at the Transfer Station and can be picked up between 8-2 PM starting tomorrow 9/15. First come, first serve Wellfleet residents only, 10 bags per household. You must fill the bags yourself. For convenience, we will have some shovels and a stockpile of clean sand located next to the brush pile.
2. Depending on the conditions, we may decide to close the Transfer Station on Saturday and/or Sunday. Please stay tuned to your alerts, Town website and Wellfleet DPW page for further updates.

Any questions please call our office at 508-349-0315 or email at [email protected]. Thank you and be careful out there!
