THE CHILDREN WHO INSPIRED US ✨

While Dream Sponsors began with a mission to support orphaned and vulnerable youth, it was the children themselves who shaped our journey.

Their resilience, determination, kindness, and hope inspired us every step of the way.

Over the years, approximately 25 youth received educational sponsorships and support for basic needs. Some went on to complete secondary school, vocational training, and higher education.

Every child had a story.
Every child had dreams.
Every child mattered.

Their courage reminded us why this work was important and continues to inspire us today. ❤️🌍

BUILDING THE TEAM ✨

No dream becomes reality alone.

As Dream Sponsors grew, so did the team of dedicated volunteers, board members, community leaders, sponsors, and supporters who believed in the mission.

From Kenya to the United States and beyond, people brought their unique skills, experiences, and passion to help create opportunities for orphaned and vulnerable youth.

What started with a conversation between Carla and Fiston became a global community united by one belief:

Every child deserves the opportunity to dream. ❤️🌍

To every volunteer, donor, mentor, board member, and partner who has been part of this journey—thank you for helping build the Dream Sponsors family.

MORE THAN SPONSORSHIP ✨

As Dream Sponsors grew, we realized that school fees alone were not enough.

Many of the girls we supported faced challenges beyond the classroom, including early pregnancy, forced marriage, poverty, and limited opportunities.

We learned that girls needed more than educational support.

They needed:
✨ Mentorship
✨ Life skills
✨ Health education
✨ Confidence
✨ A safe space to grow and dream

Those lessons planted the seeds for what would eventually become My Girl TRIBE™.

Sometimes the greatest impact comes from listening, learning, and evolving to meet the needs of the communities we serve. ❤️🌍

THE LESSONS WE LEARNED ✨

As Dream Sponsors grew, we learned an important lesson:

Sometimes the greatest impact comes not from what we teach, but from what we learn.

The children, families, and communities we met in Kenya taught us about resilience, gratitude, perseverance, and hope in the face of tremendous challenges.

They reminded us that real change happens through relationships, listening, and working together.

Those lessons helped shape not only Dream Sponsors, but eventually the vision for My Girl TRIBE™.

Twenty years later, we remain grateful for the people who welcomed us into their communities and trusted us to walk alongside them. ❤️🌍

EDUCATION CHANGES EVERYTHING ✨

At the heart of Dream Sponsors was a simple belief:

Education can change a life.

When Dream Sponsors was founded, the goal was to help orphaned and vulnerable youth attend school and have their basic needs met. For many children, something as simple as school fees, uniforms, supplies, or meals stood between them and an education.

We saw firsthand how eager children were to learn despite enormous obstacles. We met students who walked long distances to school, shared limited resources, and persevered through challenges most of us can hardly imagine.

We also witnessed something extraordinary: when given an opportunity, children thrived.

Over the years, approximately 25 orphaned and vulnerable youth received sponsorship support through primary school and Form 4. Several high-achieving students went on to receive support for college or polytechnical training.

Education was never just about academics.

It was about:
✨ Building confidence
✨ Creating opportunity
✨ Breaking cycles of poverty
✨ Developing leaders
✨ Turning dreams into reality

The seeds planted through sponsorship continue to grow today through My Girl TRIBE™, where we now help girls build not only educational success, but leadership skills, emotional wellness, confidence, and hope for the future.

Because every child deserves the chance to dream—and the opportunity to pursue those dreams. ❤️🌍

WHERE IT ALL BECAME REAL ✨

Sometimes a single moment changes everything.

In 2008, after Dream Sponsors was founded, Carla and Fiston traveled together to Western Kenya to meet some of the first children supported through the sponsorship program.

One of those children was Elizabeth, who lived with her grandmother.

During a visit to her school, we arrived at lunchtime and witnessed something that would stay with us forever. Children stood patiently in line holding only a mug and spoon, waiting to receive a simple meal of a corn and bean mixture.

For many children, this was the most substantial meal of the day.

That moment was a powerful reminder that education is about so much more than a classroom. Children cannot learn when they are hungry. They cannot reach their dreams without support, opportunity, and hope.

This photo captures more than a visit. It captures the heart of why Dream Sponsors was created.

What began with sponsorships for orphaned and vulnerable youth would eventually grow into mentorship programs, girls’ empowerment initiatives, community partnerships, and My Girl TRIBE™.

But it all started with people.
A child.
A family.
A dream.

And the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. ❤️🌍

HOW DREAM SPONSORS GOT ITS NAME ✨

Every organization has a story. Sometimes, it begins with a simple conversation.

When Carla first met Fiston, they spent time talking about his journey from orphan and refugee to university student leader. They talked about the dreams he had for his future and how sponsorship and education had helped make those dreams possible.

As they discussed creating an organization to help orphaned and vulnerable youth, the conversation turned to the power of dreams.

Fiston shared how important it was that someone had believed in him and invested in his future.

Then Carla said:

“What if we call it Dream Sponsors?”

The name captured exactly what they hoped to do—connect children and youth with people who would believe in their potential and help make their dreams possible through education, support, and opportunity.

From that simple conversation, Dream Sponsors was born.

What started as a vision between two people grew into a mission that has touched lives across continents, supporting youth, empowering girls, training mentors, and building partnerships that continue today.

Twenty years later, the name still reflects the heart of the mission:

✨ Helping dreams become possible.
✨ Helping youth discover their potential.
✨ Helping communities create brighter futures.

Sometimes the most meaningful things begin with a simple conversation and a shared belief that dreams matter. ❤️🌍

As we celebrate 20 years of Dream Sponsors, it is only fitting that we honor one of the people who helped inspire it all.

After returning from a volunteer trip to Kenya in 2006, Carla came across a newspaper article in the Palm Beach Post about a remarkable young man named Fiston.

Fiston was an orphan and refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo whose life had been transformed through sponsorship and education. Despite tremendous hardship, he became the first international student elected Student Government Association President at Lynn University.

His story was one of resilience, determination, and hope.

When Carla met Fiston, they quickly discovered a shared belief: education has the power to change lives and help dreams become reality.

For Fiston, becoming involved with Dream Sponsors was a way to “pay forward” the opportunity that sponsorship had given him. Together, he and Carla began envisioning an organization that would help orphaned and vulnerable youth access education, basic needs, and the support necessary to pursue their dreams.

Those conversations became the foundation of Dream Sponsors.

Twenty years later, the impact of that vision continues through the lives of children, girls, mentors, families, and communities across Africa.

Thank you, Fiston, for helping inspire a dream that continues to grow. ❤️🌍
