IMAGE 1: Fog is expected to develop tonight into Thursday morning (PURPLE shaded area), and with temperatures below freezing, it will likely result in some slick spots on area roadways.

IMAGE 2: After a slight warm-up today, colder temperatures are anticipated for Thursday through Saturday. Wind chills Friday night into Saturday morning will be in the -10° to -15° range. Some fog will be possible Thursday morning with a chance for flurries Thursday night into Friday.

The National Weather Service in Wichita continues a COLD WEATHER ADVISORY for Sumner County… in effect NOW and until NOON Monday, January 26, 2026. (The WINTER STORM WARNING has been canceled)
* WHAT... Very cold wind chills of -10° to -20°.
* WHERE... Portions of central and south central and southeast Kansas.
* WHEN... Until NOON CST Monday.
* IMPACTS... The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Cold Weather Advisory: Be Aware... A Cold Weather Advisory is issued when seasonably cold air temperatures or wind chill values, but not extremely cold values, are expected or occurring. Be sure you and your loved ones dress appropriately and cover exposed skin when venturing outdoors.

The National Weather Service in Wichita continues the WINTER STORM WARNING for Sumner County... in effect NOW and until NOON on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

IMAGE 1: Snow will continue today and will start to shift southeast tonight into Sunday morning. Most locations will see total amounts in the 4 to 8 inch range with a few higher amounts over southern Kansas.

IMAGE 2: Bitter cold wind chills are expected for Sunday through Monday morning with -10° to -20° readings likely.

The National Weather Service in Wichita continues the WINTER STORM WARNING for Sumner County... in effect NOW and until NOON on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

* WHAT... Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches.

* WHERE... Portions of Central, South Central, and Southeast Kansas.

* WHEN... From this morning and until noon CST Sunday.

* IMPACTS... Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

IMAGE 1: Widespread snow is expected this evening through Sunday morning. Most locations will pick-up more than 6 inches of snow with some locations across southern and southeast Kansas seeing more than 8 inches of snowfall. Snow will move into the area by early this evening and continue through Saturday morning. A brief lull in snow intensity is expected during the day on Saturday before moving back in Saturday evening. Snowfall will come to an end Sunday morning across the area.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Winter Storm WATCH for Sumner County… from Friday afternoon, January 23, through Saturday night, January 24, 2026.

* WHAT...A prolonged period of snow with moderate to heavy snow at times is possible. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches is possible with the higher totals expected to affect locations closer to the Kansas/Oklahoma border.

* WHERE...Portions of South Central and Southeast Kansas.

* WHEN...Snow is expected to begin Friday afternoon and continue through late Saturday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a WIND ADVISORY that includes Sumner County… in effect NOW and until 6:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2026.

In Sumner County when a WIND ADVISORY event has been issued… ALL outdoor burning is PROHIBITED as per County Resolution 2011-47.

Northwesterly winds are expected to be in the 25 to 35 mph range with gusts of 50 mph… across central, south central and southeast Kansas.

Strong winds could blow down large trees limbs and powerlines. Sporadic power outages are possible. Strong winds will impact travel, high profile vehicles and motorcycles will especially have difficulties while traveling… also be certain to secure any light weight outdoor items like patio furniture, charcoal grills, toys, etc.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph and/or gusts over 45 mph are likely. All outdoor burning should be avoided.

THURSDAY - Conditions will be on the milder side today, mainly west of the Flint Hills. Most of the region will be sunny, but a few clouds will help to keep temperatures a bit cooler across portions of northeast/eastern Kansas.

IMAGE 1 - FRIDAY: Gusty northwest wind are forecast during the day on Friday. This paired with dry air will support elevated fire weather concerns Friday afternoon.

IMAGE 2: Temperatures will be on a bit of a roller coaster this weekend with the coldest day being on Saturday. Wind chills Sunday morning will hover around 0 across much of the area.
