The Spokane Tribal Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance.

On July 19th, 2026, at approximately 12:40, a felony level assault took place on a tribal elder at the Spoko Fuel in Chewelah, WA (2509 US-395, Chewelah, WA 99109). The image below is of a potential witness who may have observed the crime. The male depicted below is NOT wanted by the Spokane Tribal Police for any crime.

If you have any information regarding this male’s identity or have contact information, please contact the Spokane Tribal Police and reference case 26-0393 or ask to speak with Corporal Moreno.

Peters Road will remain closed in both directions for an additional 24 hours.

This closure is necessary to protect the health and safety of the fire personnel who will be working in the area, primarily along the roadway.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews continue their work. Please avoid the area, follow all posted detours, and allow emergency personnel the space they need to work safely.

Evacuation update for Mitre Rock Fire:

The fire has jumped Peter’s Rd but crews were quick to put lines around it and it’s holding.

LEVEL 3: Peter’s Rd north to Enterprise Rd & Westend Community
LEVEL 2: Westend Rd east to Burke Rd & North to Enterprise Rd
LEVEL 1: HWY 25 west to Columbia River
