The Green Free Library holds more than 54,000 items including fiction, nonfiction, reference, large print, young adult, and children's books. DVDs and Music CDs are also available. The library subscribes to more than 100 periodicals and newspapers. The Green Free Library is located at 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901. Library hours:

The library is open for full services. Appointments are not required; please respect each other’s space. Curbside pickup is still available! Please use hand sanitizer before using the computer or browsing the shelves for the health and safety of other patrons and library staff. Masks are optional for staff and patrons. (Please do not enter the library if you are feeling unwell, have a fever, or have recently been in contact with someone with COVID-19.) The book drop and media drop remains open at all times. You may also return library items inside at the Circulation Desk. Books, audiobooks, and audio CDs circulate for two weeks; DVDs and magazines circulate for one week. All library items have up to two automatic renewals if they are not on hold for another patron! We also offer free public internet and WiFi, Interlibrary Loan for books (from other Pennsylvania libraries) not available at The Green Free Library, public computers, printing and photocopying services (for a fee), genealogy and local history resources, ebook and digital audiobook lending through eBranch2Go (https://ebranch2go.overdrive.com/ebranch2go-wellsboro/content) and the Libby app (both powered by OverDrive), tax forms, and a number of databases. Our online resources include Newspaper Archives (with many Pennsylvania and New York newspapers), NoveList, Mango Languages, Learning Express Library, TumbleBooks Library, HeritageQuest Online, and Ancestry Library Edition; these resources can be accessed from our website, www.greenfreelibrary.org (some of these resources may require a Green Free Library card). Please call the library to ask for the Ancestry from Home password. (Note: our password is only for patrons with Green Free Library cards.) Regular programs at The Green Free Library include Preschool Story Time, a monthly book club for adults, and a Summer Library Program for all ages. The Green Free Library Teen Book Club Group page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/404844872892059/) houses summer reading book discussions and has information about programming for teens. Miss Mia shares songs, stories, and craft ideas each Wednesday on the Green Free Library Story Time YouTube Channel (year-round)! We have online registration for in-person Preschool Story Time on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am in the Children’s Room (September through May)! The Green Free Library Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 5:15pm in the Main Room (year-round). Green Free Library cards are free and available to Pennsylvania residents. To apply for a Green Free Library card, please visit the library with your valid PA Driver’s License or PA State ID card. (Patrons under the age of 18 must come in with their parent or legal guardian and the parent/guardian's PA ID. The parent or legal guardian must sign the patron’s application.) Green Free Library cards are also available for patrons over the age of 18 with out-of-state driver’s licenses (or state IDs) for a $25 deposit. You may also apply for a Green Free Library card by emailing [email protected] with your name and contact information. We will email you with your new library card number so you can access our free online resources. Then, stop in with your valid PA Driver's License or PA State ID card to sign your application and get your library card. (Patrons under the age of 18 will need to come in with their parent or legal guardian and the parent/guardian's PA ID when they pick up their library card.) Out-of-state patrons over the age of 18 may apply for Green Free Library cards by emailing [email protected] and mailing a check for the $25 deposit to The Green Free Library, 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
