and I am running for 2016 Brooke County Sheriff. I retired from the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department in 2014. Not because I was tired of being a Deputy, but because I felt that the Sheriff’s Department had many good deputies. There were a lot of great resources which were not being utilized effectively for the citizens of Brooke County. I have always wanted to run for Sheriff but being a civil
service employee , I would have had to resign as a deputy to run. Upon reaching my twentieth year of service at the Sheriff’s Department, I was able to think about retirement and to keep an open mind about other employment opportunities. I received notice that Bethany College was hiring for the position of Director of Safety and Security. I spent many hours discussing this option with family, friends and co-workers. On September 14, 2014, decided to retire and accept the position. While being out of law enforcement for less than a year, I was approached by many Brooke County citizens. We discussed their concerns with the efforts of the Sheriff’s Department, along with the growing heroin problem and increased crime rate in the county. They stated to me that they were confident in my past leadership abilities and law enforcement experience and suggested to me that I run for Sheriff. Once again I met with my family and friends to discuss the pro’s and con’s of leaving my current job to run. This was my opportunity to fulfill my life time dream of being the Sheriff of Brooke County. Though I had planned on waiting for my oldest child to graduate high school before I ran, I noticed that the problems that our county is facing were and are getting worse day by day. This confirmed my decision to run for Sheriff. In my professional career I have displayed repeatedly the leadership and experience required to get the criminals off of the streets. With my leadership and your support we can make Brooke County a safer place to live. I would appreciate your support and vote.
