đźš’ A Long-Awaited Addition to Your Fire Station đźš’

One thing I've heard from many people since becoming Fire Chief is, "I never knew that was the fire station because there wasn't a sign."

Well, we're fixing that.

Today, Assistant Chief Ben Gillentine and Captain Matt Gillentine are installing the framework for a new sign at the Wellston Fire Department. The sign panels are currently being painted and finished and should be ready in time for our Open House next weekend.

This project was made possible through the generosity of J&D Fabricators, a Wellston business owned by a Wellston resident. J&D Fabricators donated the design, construction, labor, and materials used to build the sign. We are grateful for their support of the fire department and the Wellston community.

I'd also like to clarify that no Town of Wellston tax dollars were used for this project. The sign itself was completely donated by J&D Fabricators, and the concrete for the base was purchased using funds raised through fire department fundraisers and community donations.

We appreciate Jerry Bailey and J&D Fabricators for their time, craftsmanship, and commitment to helping improve our department. The sign looks great, and we're proud to finally have a visible marker identifying your fire station.

As a reminder, we invite everyone to join us for our Open House:

Come tour the station, see our apparatus and equipment, enjoy a free hamburger, help us dedicate our new brush rig, and be there for the unveiling of Engine 48.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

🚨 Fire Department Advisory 🚨
Fire crews are currently on scene in the 500 block of Elm due to power lines arching in the wind. Trees have grown into the power lines, causing the arching condition.

OG&E has been notified and has advised of an approximate 45-minute ETA. Fire crews will remain on scene until winds subside or OG&E arrives.

Please use caution in the area and avoid downed or arching power lines. If you experience similar conditions in your area, notify OG&E immediately.

Also if you notice that you you trees touching power lines, contact OG&E.

The refurbishment project on the “48” is continuing to make steady progress, and we are excited to see this piece of equipment coming back to life for the community and the firefighters who serve it. A tremendous amount of hard work and dedication has gone into this project, and we appreciate everyone who has supported the effort so far.

We are officially down to the wire as we work to complete the refurbishment, and donations are still being accepted to help push this project across the finish line. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly supports getting this unit back in service and ready to respond when our community needs it most.

Donations can be made through: • Venmo:
• Cash App: $WellstonOkFire

Donations may also be dropped off in person at Wellston Town Hall.

On behalf of the Wellston Fire Department, thank you to everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, and invested in the safety of our community. Your support truly makes a difference.

Today, the Wellston Fire Department was proud to be part of the Wellston Alumni Parade, and even more proud to have our Jr. Firefighter, Kolby, riding along with us.

Kolby, a 4th grader here in Wellston, represented our department with enthusiasm and pride. Opportunities like this are more than just a parade—they’re about building the next generation of public servants and strengthening the connection between our department and the community we serve.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Kolby’s parents for their support and for allowing him to take part in this experience. Your support of the fire service and your encouragement of Kolby’s interest in serving others does not go unnoticed.

Kolby, you did an outstanding job today. We’re proud of you.

đźš’ 1948 Fire Engine Restoration Update & Fundraiser Reminder đźš’

From Fire Chief Todd Beesley:

Our historic 1948 fire engine is making real progress. The apparatus has now been completely sandblasted and is currently in the paint booth receiving a protective coating. The next phase will bring it back to life with fresh paint, restoring the pride and tradition it represents for our community.

This project is about more than just a truck—it’s about preserving a piece of Wellston’s history for future generations.

We are still accepting donations to help complete the visual restoration. Contributions can be made through our CashApp and Venmo.

Every dollar goes directly toward ensuring this engine is restored with the respect it deserves.

Thank you for your continued support of the Wellston Fire Department and our mission to honor the past while serving the future.

Last night, the Wellston Fire Department conducted our monthly in-house training at the station, focusing on search and rescue operations. For the first time, we were able to utilize a smoke machine that was purchased with funds raised during our fundraiser last November.

This new equipment allows our firefighters to train in a safe, controlled, yet highly realistic environment, simulating the conditions we face on actual emergency scenes. The addition of this capability significantly strengthens our ability to prepare for real-world incidents and enhances the effectiveness of our response.

Training hours accrued throughout the year also contribute directly toward our ISO rating. Investments in equipment like this, which create a more realistic training environment, are highly beneficial—not only for the development and safety of our firefighters, but also for our community. Improving our ISO rating can positively impact the level of service we provide and may contribute to potential savings on homeowners insurance for our residents.

We look forward to expanding our training with more scenario-based exercises using this equipment in the future.

We are grateful for the continued support of our community and everyone who contributed to last year’s fundraiser. Your support directly impacts our ability to train, improve, and better serve the citizens of Wellston.

The Wellston Fire Department extends our thoughts and prayers to our fellow firefighters at the Langston Fire Department following the tragic crash that occurred after they answered the call to assist with tornado response efforts in Enid.

According to local media outlet reports, four firefighters were injured in a head-on collision with a semi-truck while returning home after helping those impacted by the recent tornado. Their Fire Chief remains hospitalized with critical injuries, while the other firefighters are also recovering.

This incident is a powerful reminder of the risks our first responders face—not only on the fireground, but every time they answer the call to serve others. These individuals selflessly left their community to support fellow Oklahomans in a time of need, demonstrating the very best of the fire service.

We stand in full support of the Langston Fire Department, the injured firefighters, and their families during this difficult time. We ask our community to join us in lifting them up in prayer and keeping them in your thoughts as they recover.
