MOSQUITO SPRAY NOTICE

The City of Wellston will be conducting mosquito spraying on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, to help control the mosquito population and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses.

Spraying will take place between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Individuals with respiratory sensitivities may wish to remain indoors during spraying activities and should consider closing their windows and shutting off any window unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.

Storm Debris Cleanup Update

As we continue recovery efforts, please have all branches and tree limbs placed at the curb no later than Wednesday, September 2, for pickup. Our crews will work through the community collecting debris as quickly as possible.

⚠️ Important: Before placing tree limbs at the curb, please remove all hardware, including swing bolts, eye bolts, hooks, chains, and other metal attachments. Items like the bolt shown in the attached photo can cause significant damage to the new equipment and create safety hazards for our crews.

We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we work through the large amount of storm damage. Together, we'll get our community cleaned up and moving forward.

Due to the recent storm damage throughout our community, many residents may be seeking contractors for cleanup, repairs, and rebuilding projects.

To help protect homeowners and ensure work is completed by qualified professionals, the City of Wellston maintains a list of registered contractors authorized to work within the city. View the current list here:

To become a registered contractor in the City of Wellston, contractors must submit an application, provide proof of liability insurance, obtain a registration bond, pay the required registration fee, and, for applicable trades, provide current State of Ohio licensing. Registrations must be renewed annually.

Before hiring a contractor, residents are encouraged to:
✅ Verify the contractor is registered with the City of Wellston
✅ Obtain any required permits before work begins
✅ Request proof of insurance and references
✅ Be cautious of unsolicited door-to-door offers or calls following storm events

Looking for a place to sell your fresh produce, flowers, and more? The City of Wellston is making the old high school lot available for a community Farmers Market throughout September!

📅 Market Dates:
Every Thursday through Sunday in September
EXCEPT September 10-13, when the lot will be unavailable to facilitate the OHillCo Festival Parade.

✅ No registration or sign-up required. Just show up and set up!

Please be courteous and mindful of others:
• Do not set up on the sidewalk.
• Maintain a reasonable distance from sidewalks and pedestrian areas.
• Please keep your area clean and remove all items at the end of the market period.

Important Reminders:
• Items are only permitted on the lot during the posted event dates.
• Any items left behind after Sunday will be discarded on Monday.
• Leaving items behind may impact the continuation of future events.

🍃🚜 A Huge Thank You to the Ohio EPA! 🚜🍃

We are incredibly grateful to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for awarding us $200,000 through Recycle Ohio Grant funding. To date, we have received half of those funds, and thanks to this investment, we were able to purchase the new chipper pictured here.

We were thrilled to receive this equipment today, and its arrival could not have come at a better time. Following the devastating storm over the weekend, this chipper will play a vital role in helping our community with storm debris cleanup and recovery efforts.

This funding allows us to better serve our residents, improve our waste management capabilities, and respond more effectively when our community needs us most.

On behalf of our community, thank you, Ohio EPA, for your continued support and commitment to helping local communities build the tools and resources needed to meet today's challenges.

We were honored to join Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel at Centrus Energy Corp. as part of the Heart of Opportunity Tour.

The Heart of Opportunity Tour highlights the innovation, workforce development, and economic growth happening across Appalachian Ohio. The tour showcases businesses, organizations, and communities that are creating opportunities and helping shape a stronger future for the region.
