🚒🏆 HONORING WELLSVILLE’S CHAMPIONS 🏆🚒

One of the best parts of being a volunteer fire department is that not every time we roll out the door is for an emergency.

Sometimes, it’s for moments like this.

On Monday, members of the Wellsville Fire Department, Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and local law enforcement will have the privilege of es**rting our Championship Baseball Team and Track Athletes through the Village of Wellsville.

These young men and women have dedicated countless hours to practices, competitions, training, and teamwork. They have represented our schools and community with pride, and their accomplishments deserve to be recognized.

We’ve heard a few people ask why we use the lights and sirens.

The answer is simple.

Championships don’t happen every day.

The lights and sirens aren’t for us. They’re for the athletes. They’re for the families who supported them. They’re for the coaches who dedicated their time. And they’re for a community that enjoys celebrating success together.

Besides, if we’re being honest, driving a fire truck quietly through town just doesn’t have the same effect.

We encourage everyone to come out, line the route, wave to the athletes, and help us show them how proud Wellsville is of their accomplishments.

Congratulations to all of our champions. We look forward to celebrating with you and your families.

🚒 DAY 4 OF CHAMPIONSHIP ES**RT PREPARATIONS 🚒

The big day is almost here.

Today, members spent several minutes conducting a comprehensive operational review, also known as standing around the truck discussing where everyone is going to park.

The apparatus are ready. The route is set. The athletes are champions. The sirens remain fully functional despite several Facebook experts recommending we celebrate in complete silence.

We’ve also completed our annual fiscal impact assessment. After consulting with our accountants, economists, and the guy who keeps receipts in a coffee can, we can confirm the fuel cost remains approximately $20.

For those concerned about the expenditure, we have explored alternatives:

• Pushing the trucks down Main Street
• Horse-drawn apparatus
• Strongly worded congratulatory letters
• Everyone making siren noises with their mouths

Unfortunately, none were deemed operationally feasible.

In all seriousness, this es**rt is about recognizing young men and women who dedicated countless hours to their sport, represented Wellsville with pride, and accomplished something special. Communities should celebrate achievements, support their youth, and occasionally take a break from arguing on the internet.

So when you hear the sirens and see the lights, remember: nobody is in trouble. It’s simply Wellsville doing what small towns do best—coming together to recognize the people who make us proud.

We look forward to honoring our champions and seeing everyone along the route.

Congratulations again to all of our athletes. We’ll see you Monday. 🏆⚾🏃‍♂️🚒

🚒 DAY 3 OF CHAMPIONSHIP ES**RT PREPARATIONS 🚒

The countdown continues.

Today, our crews completed the highly technical process of making sure the trucks start, the lights flash, and the sirens continue to make certain Facebook commenters immediately reach for their keyboards.

As expected, we’ve heard a few concerns:

“Why do they need lights and sirens?”

Because if we quietly drove the athletes around in a beige minivan, it just wouldn’t have the same effect.

“Isn’t this a waste of taxpayer money?”

The estimated fuel cost remains about $20. For perspective, that’s roughly the cost of two movie tickets, three fancy coffees, or one trip through the drive-thru when your kids decide they suddenly need dessert.

For that investment, a community gets to celebrate young men and women who dedicated countless hours to their sport, represented Wellsville with pride, and achieved something worth recognizing.

Seems like a pretty good return on investment.

At the end of the day, emergency vehicles are a symbol of community service. Sometimes that service means responding to emergencies. Sometimes it means showing up for the people who make our community proud.

So on June 15th, if you hear sirens and see flashing lights, don’t be alarmed. Nobody is in trouble. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.

It’s a community taking a few minutes to celebrate success, hard work, and the next generation of Wellsville.

We look forward to seeing everyone along the route as we honor our champions. 🏆⚾🏃‍♀️🚒

🚒 DAY 2 OF PREPARATIONS FOR OUR CHAMPIONSHIP ES**RT 🚒

After extensive planning, route reviews, coordination meetings, and at least three members asking, “Wait, what time are we meeting again?”, we are one day closer to celebrating our Wellsville Championship Baseball Team and Track Athletes.

Our apparatus have been thoroughly inspected. The lights work. The sirens work. The drivers have been reminded that this is an es**rt and not the Daytona 500.

Fuel levels have been checked, and our accountants have informed us that the estimated fuel expense remains somewhere between “a couple gallons” and “don’t tell the Treasurer.”

Most importantly, we’re looking forward to recognizing a group of young athletes who have worked incredibly hard to represent our community with pride. Their dedication, sportsmanship, and accomplishments deserve to be celebrated by the entire village.

So mark your calendars for Monday, June 15th at 5:00 PM. Come line the streets, wave to the athletes, and help us show these students just how proud Wellsville is of their achievements.

And if anyone would like to help offset the heroic sacrifice of approximately $20 worth of diesel fuel, donations are always appreciated. We promise to spend it on highly important public safety equipment… such as getting the trucks to and from the parade route.

Congratulations again to our champions. We’ll see you on the route!

🚒⚾ SUPPORTING OUR CHAMPIONS! 🏃‍♂️🏆

On Monday, June 15th, members of the Wellsville Fire Department and Ambulance Corps will have the honor of es**rting our Varsity Championship Baseball Team and Track Athletes through the Village of Wellsville.

For us, it’s about more than turning on the lights and sirens. It’s about recognizing the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of these young athletes who have represented our community so well.

Now, before anyone asks… yes, the trucks run on diesel, not school spirit. 😄

The es**rt will use approximately $15 worth of fuel from Grant Duke Hose Company apparatus. While we’re proud to support these outstanding students, if anyone would like to help offset the cost, donations are always appreciated and can be dropped off at the station or sent through our normal donation channels.

No donation is too small, and all contributions help us continue supporting community events, training, and emergency response throughout the year. We also have a fundraiser going with 3 opportunities to win a prize!

Most importantly, come out on June 15th, cheer on these athletes, and help us show them how proud Wellsville is of their accomplishments!

Congratulations to all of our champions. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Over the weekend, members of the Grant Duke Hose Company spent time preparing for the upcoming Memorial Day by placing flags at the gravesites of our deceased members throughout the community.

While visiting the cemeteries, members also took the opportunity to carefully clean several weathered headstones that have become difficult to read with age. It was a small act of respect to help preserve the memory and legacy of those who served both this department and our community before us.

Among those remembered was our own Victor H. Graves, who was killed in action in France during World War II while serving his country. Like so many from his generation, he answered the call to serve both at home and abroad, and his sacrifice continues to be remembered by this department and community.

As Memorial Day approaches, we are reminded that the freedoms and communities we enjoy today were built through the service and sacrifice of countless individuals. We are proud to honor the members of this department who dedicated their lives to serving others and ensuring their memory is never forgotten.

Tonight, we would like to recognize three recent graduates of the New York State Basic Exterior Firefighter Operations (BEFO) course hosted in Oramel over the last couple months.

Among those graduates is our very own member, Zac Roberts (pictured below in the middle), who successfully completed the course alongside two other dedicated firefighters from Wellsville Engine 2 - D**e Street Engine Company. The BEFO program provides firefighters with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed to safely and effectively operate on the fireground while serving their communities.

Throughout the course, students trained in areas including fire behavior, PPE and SCBA use, hose and water operations, ladders, search techniques, scene safety, and basic fireground operations. Completing this training takes commitment, long evenings, weekends away from home, and a strong desire to serve others.

We are proud of Zac and all three graduates for the hard work and dedication they have shown over these last few months. The future of the fire service depends on individuals willing to step forward, train hard, and continue learning.

Please join us in congratulating Zac Roberts and the other graduates on this accomplishment!
