This past Tuesday, The Wellton Fire Department had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Dateland Elementary’s 5th grade class.
Students have been learning about what firefighters do and participated in MAYDAY drills.
Students geared up and engaged in scenarios of a downed firefighter or rescue assignment all while in the dark. The class performed very well and had blast!
Special guests:
WPD K-9 Officer Alvarez and his K-9 Atla spoke to the class about being a K-9 officer and their skills as partners.
From Municipal Emergency Services, students learned about the gear and tech firefighters need. Furthermore, how thermal imaging works along with its significance.
Firefighters gave the class a station tour, drove around town in the Fire trucks, then finished the afternoon with pizza and ice cream. We do hope it was a memorable experience! Thank you Dateland Elementary for the privilege to teach students about firefighting and spark their curiosity!
The mission of the Wellton Fire Department is to provide the very best fire protection, rescue, and medical care for the citizens of the Town of Wellton.
