Today’s Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority Board meeting focused on strategic investments that strengthen infrastructure, support business growth, and position our region for future economic opportunities.

• Awarded the contract for the Wallace Road Transmission Water Mains and Reservoirs Project, a significant infrastructure investment that expands water capacity and supports industrial development, business recruitment, and job creation in the Malaga area.

• Approved Resolution 2026-07, committing matching funds for a Sustainable Aviation grant application. This investment helps position Pangborn Memorial Airport to pursue future infrastructure improvements to support electric airplanes and strengthens the region’s long-term aviation and economic competitiveness.

• Authorized several next steps related to the proposed Yonder Cider lease, including final lease review, refrigeration equipment removal, and design and permitting work necessary to prepare the facility for occupancy. This project supports the reuse of Port assets while creating opportunities for private investment, business expansion, and future employment growth.

• Approved the 2025 financial statements for the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority, Port of Chelan County, and Port of Douglas County, demonstrating our continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public resources.

These actions reflect the Regional Port’s strategic focus on infrastructure readiness, business development, transportation assets, and fiscal responsibility. Together, these investments help create the conditions for long-term economic vitality and opportunity throughout North Central Washington.

What exactly is the Trades District?

The Trades District is a business incubator developed by the Chelan Douglas Region Port Authority to help entrepreneurs and small businesses launch, grow, and succeed.

Designed to provide affordable commercial space, shared infrastructure, and business support resources, the Trades District helps bridge the gap between a great idea and a sustainable business.

Today, the campus is home to a diverse mix of local businesses, including specialty food and beverage producers, restaurants, creative studios, healthcare innovators, professional service providers, skilled trades businesses, and community-focused nonprofits—creating a vibrant hub for entrepreneurship and economic growth.

What started as an idea to support local entrepreneurship has grown into a thriving community of businesses creating jobs, investment, and opportunity in the Wenatchee Valley.

We were proud to join the audience at 1 Million Cups yesterday to support Leticia, owner of Heirloom Baking Company, as she shared her entrepreneurial journey with the community.

Since opening at the Trades District, Leticia has grown Heirloom Baking Company into a beloved local business, known for creating handcrafted baked goods and building meaningful connections with customers. Yesterday, she offered an honest look at the challenges, lessons, and opportunities that come with building a business from the ground up.

Entrepreneurship takes courage, persistence, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when the path isn't always clear. Leticia embodies those qualities, and we couldn't be more proud to see her represent both her business and the Trades District at this month's 1 Million Cups.

Congratulations, Leticia, and thank you for sharing your story and inspiring others who are pursuing their own entrepreneurial dreams.

What is an Economic Development Plan — and why does it matter?

The Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority’s draft 2026–2030 Economic Development Plan helps guide long-term priorities that support economic vitality across Chelan and Douglas Counties.

The plan serves as a roadmap for regional economic development efforts and helps identify strategies, partnerships, and investments that can strengthen ourcommunities through initiatives like:

• Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs
• Investing in infrastructure and transportation
• Encouraging job creation and workforce development
• Preparing industrial and business-ready sites
• Strengthening regional partnerships and community engagement
• Supporting long-term economic resilience and opportunity

Economic development impacts many aspects of daily life — from jobs and infrastructure to business growth, transportation, and quality of life.

As the region’s Associate Development Organization, the Regional Port works collaboratively with local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and community partners to help build a strong and sustainable regional economy.

Community input is an important part of this process, and we encourage residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the draft plan and share feedback.
