Wenatchee School District 246

Wenatchee School District 246 Our students are 53 percent LatinX, 43 percent white, and 4 percent from other cultural and racial backgrounds.

Through high-quality instruction, social-emotional support, and career-connected learning, we are helping each and every student achieve success and tap into their limitless potential. Who We Are
Wenatchee School District is made of seven elementary schools, three middle schools, one comprehensive high school, one alternative high school, a K-8 alternative parent partnership school, and a technica

l skills center that serves our district and others. We are 1,100 exceptional educators, including full- and part-time certified and classified employees, who take pride in serving the more than 7,600 students who attend WSD schools. Fifty-five percent of students receive free-and-reduced lunches, and more than 500 are currently experiencing homelessness. Together, our students, teachers, staff, and leadership represent the diversity and richness of Wenatchee, as well as the challenges facing our community. What We Do
We teach, support, and challenge students to excel through high-quality instruction and social-emotional learning. Our goal is to build a foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion from which all students emerge future-ready. To do this, we have set our “Big 6” Student Outcomes, as well as priorities and action steps to help us get there. Action steps include hiring staff that reflects the diversity of our student body, building the skills and knowledge of our staff through continued professional development, and eliminating systemic barriers for every student. We are also partnering with local business owners to give students career-connected learning opportunities. Many of these initiatives are underway and creating positive change. We are committed to driving progress forward by continuing what’s working, changing what isn’t, and sharing our work with the Wenatchee community. Why It Matters
Students come to our schools with different lived experiences, starting points, and needs. Today, too many of them are not meeting grade-level standards or feeling prepared to seize the opportunities available to them upon graduation. We believe every student has limitless potential and deserves an education that will help them reach their academic and career goals—whatever they may be. That’s why we’re working hard to make WSD a place every student knows they belong and has what they need to succeed.

🎓WESTSIDE GRADUATION // This week, just over 100 WestSide High School graduates crossed the finish line and received their diplomas. This is one of the most personal, powerful, and emotional graduation events to witness. Stories of perseverance, grit, and determination show through in the voices, expressions, and long-lasting hugs of our grads. We're proud to be part of their journeys and wish them the best. Congratulations, WestSide Class of 2026 you did it!

🚌🎨 Reed Carlson has ridden the Link Transit bus to WHS for years. So naturally, his retirement send-off happened on one.

City Council member and Link Transit driver Jose Cuevas drove a decorated bus in Reed's honor on his last day — complete with treats, Confluence Health employees, and a commemorative Link Bus to take home.

Same commute. One unforgettable last ride. Wishing you the best in retirement, Reed

TRANSITIONS EOY CELEBRATION // Our WSD Transitions Program celebrated student success in developing job and life skills at their End of Year Celebration. On stage, students shared their experiences working and volunteering in the community and received end-of-the-year awards. Those aging out of the program were presented with diplomas by Special Ed. Director Shayne Rennie and WHS Principal Donna Moser. Congratulations to all the Transitions staff on another great year of high-quality learning and to the students on reaching for their unlimited potential.

A FIFA World Cup soccer ball. Signed by the room. For a man who has spent years bringing people together.

Today we celebrated Alfonso Lopez our Director of Hispanic and Latino Relations as he heads into retirement. For four years, Alfonso hosted the Regional Interagency meetings at our district office, connecting agencies with schools and families with the services they need.

TOGETHER Director Hailey Croci and Superintendent Kory Kalahar presented him with the ball during the last Interagency meeting of the year, a fitting tribute for someone who has always known that the real work happens when people show up for each other.

The meetings will continue next year at the WSD office under Hailey's leadership. But Alfonso's impact on our community is permanent. Thank you for everything, Alfonso.

CITY COUNCIL TOUR // Wenatchee City Council members toured Wenatchee High School last week to learn firsthand about the building's aging infrastructure and the district's proposed bond measure that would appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

Council members walked the halls, observed classrooms and building systems, and asked thoughtful questions throughout the tour — many of them with a personal connection to WHS as a former school board member, student or as parents and grandparents of Panthers past and present.

WHS is more than a school. It is our community's comprehensive high school, a cornerstone of our city, a significant economic driver, and the place that has prepared generations of Wenatchee students for college, careers, and life.

📅 The Board of Directors is scheduled to consider placing the bond on the November 3, 2026 ballot at their June 23 meeting.
