We have two public meetings this week that we want to share:

The Chelan-Douglas Homeless Housing Task Force is having a special meeting from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 17 in conference room No. 1 in the Administration Building, 400 Douglas St. in Wenatchee.

Among the agenda items are a discussion of funding allocations for the end of state fiscal year 2026 and an update on the vacant homeless program supervisor position.

The Veteran Advisory Board meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. on June 18 in the conference room of the Economic Services department, which is also in the Administration Building.

Among the agenda items are a presentation on the budget and role of the board as well as a discussion of a potential merger of the veteran services offices of Chelan and Douglas counties.

For Jury Groups 12-14 scheduled to call after 5 p.m. on Friday, June 12, and any other jurors scheduled to call for the week of June 15-18: You are excused and done for the term.

While county phones are working, the jury line is unstable at this time and callers are unable to leave a message. Please call the Jury Administrator at 667-6383 during business hours with questions.

Email is still down, so please continue bringing submittals to us: 316 Washington St., suite 301. Our phone system is spotty, so please be patient with response times.

Until further notice, building inspections can be requested through our main line (509-667-6225) or our temporary phone (509-679-7402).

ADU Provisions Pivot: Prior notice was given regarding a July 1 deadline for permitting of Accessory Dwelling Units under current regulations. We will NOT be amending the ADU code provisions – meaning we do NOT have to comply with HB 1345 until a future date, when ADU code amendments are unavoidable. So business as usual for ADUs!

The PBRS hearing before the Board of County Commissioners is occurring as scheduled at 10:15 a.m. on June 16. This is for amendments to the Public Benefit Rating System. Public comment is closed.

June 11-12: Chelan County District Court remains in emergency closure status due to computers, email and court record being down and inaccessible. All civil and criminal out-of-custody hearings will be continued and reset at a later date.

In-custody criminal defendant hearings will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 2.

Update on our system-wide disruption:

Our phones are back up. You should be able to call a department or office you need because incoming calls are coming in.

However, some employees still can't make external calls and our voicemail is down.

What does this mean?

It means you can call us, but you may have to try a few times if the phone is busy. And please be patient with staff. They are ready to help you but they are also playing catch-up.

Some of our systems remain down, including email. There may be some things an employee can't look up for you. We will continue to keep you updated!

Offices and departments at Chelan County today began the third week of a system-wide disruption that started over the Memorial Day weekend.

Email, phone and computer systems remain down across the county’s departments. If you attempt to email us, you will not get a notice saying it arrived or bounced back. If you try to call a county office, the phone will be busy.

Our websites are also down. The county operates its main website as well as websites for Ohme Gardens, the Chelan County Fair, the Chelan County Expo Center and the Wenatchee River County Park.

We do not have a timeline for restoration of our systems.

However, county offices are open at the Wenatchee campus, as are Ohme Gardens, the Expo Center, the county park, the Dryden Transfer Station and the Moderate Risk Waste Facility. Only the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office counter is closed to the public.

Some offices have set up temporary email addresses or phone numbers, which are listed in posts below. Offices also have been regularly updating the public on such topics as jury duty, building inspections, recording and more on this page

If you need to speak with a county department, it is best to visit the office during regular business hours. Please remember that we are unable to look up items such as permits or applications. If you must make a payment, please bring the exact cash or a check.

“The restoration of our systems is going to feel like a slow process, but we must bring our systems back online safely and methodically,” said Commissioner Shon Smith, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. “Unfortunately, communication tools such as email and our telephone system may be one of the last things we can bring back online.”

On May 24, we became aware of malware affecting our network. In an abundance of caution, we promptly shut down our network and began an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the event.

We continue to work with third-party specialists to not only determine what happened but also securely restore operations. This investigation is ongoing and we have reported the incident to federal authorities.

Last week, the Board of County Commissioners, which is in session on Mondays and Tuesdays (our Zoom link is also down), declared a state of emergency in response to the system-wide disruption. The declaration allows for the board to sign any emergency service contracts without a formal bidding process.

Chelan County Superior Court is operating with some limitations. Assume that your case is going to be heard as scheduled unless you hear otherwise from court staff.

Our emails and phones are still down. Please make sure that you provide a paper judge's copy for any pleadings that you file.
