Chelan County Public Utility District was formed in 1936 by local voters who wanted affordable power for rural as well as urban residents. The PUD delivered its first electricity 11 years later to a small group of customers near Lake Chelan. Today, the PUD operates three hydro projects that deliver clean, renewable, low-cost energy to local residents and to other utilities that serve millions of r

esidents of the Pacific Northwest. Chelan County PUD relies on the mighty Columbia River for much of its hydropower generation. We recognize this great river as a multi-use system and we're proud to take a leadership role in environmental stewardship. Each year the District dedicates millions of dollars and thousands of work hours to protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plant ecosystems. As part of hydropower operations, the PUD also built 14 parks that serve more than 3 million visitors each year. Under the guidance of elected commissioners, the PUD continues to deliver affordable, dependable utilities to rural and urban areas alike while also emphasizing careful management of our natural habitats. The belief that local people are the best stewards of resources has guided District actions for 75 years.

TRANSMISSION LINE INSPECTION // Residents may see a helicopter flying low and slowly over high-voltage power lines starting today, June 1. That’s a routine inspection conducted annually over Chelan PUD’s 300 miles of transmission lines – from Stevens Pass to Wenatchee, Palisades to Manson. The inspection flights will continue over the next couple of days, depending on weather conditions.

INSPECCIÓN DEL SISTEMA DE CABLEADO DE TRANSMISIÓN // Comenzando este jueves, 23 de junio los clientes de Chelan PUD verán un helicóptero volar a lo largo del sistema de cableado de transmisión. KEEP ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT CLEAR // Don't block electrical equipment. Keep at least 10 feet of clear space around transformers, junction boxes and pad-mounted cabinets. Avoid placing trees, boulders, fences, and other items near utility equipment. Clear access helps crews respond quickly and safely.

HIGHWAY 2 TRAFFIC DELAYS // Expect traffic delays starting at 8:30 a.m. May 27 along Highway 2 near Prey's Fruit Barn and the Peshastin Bridge. Crews will remove hazardous trees and branches away from powerlines. Flagger-controlled traffic and one-lane closures will be necessary throughout the day for safety. Thank you for your patience.

PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF // A public safety power shutoff (PSPS) is a proactive power outage intended to prevent potential fires during extreme weather events. It’s one of the many tools in our Wildfire Mitigation Program used to keep our communities safe. We know the devastation that wildfires can have on a community, and we also know how hard it is when power is out. That’s why we only use a PSPS in extreme situations, and it’s always a last resort.

QUÉ ES UN APAGÓN DE SEGURIDAD CONTRA INCENDIOS? // Un apagón por seguridad pública (PSPS, por sus siglas en inglés) está diseñado para evitar que se originen incendios forestales cuando existen condiciones de clima extremas. Es una herramienta del Programa de Mitigación de Incendios Forestales. Sabemos la devastación que los incendios forestales pueden tener en una comunidad, y también reconocemos el impacto cuando se desconecta el servicio eléctrico. Es por eso que un apagón de seguridad contra incendios es una medida de último recurso que se usa en raras ocasiones.
