This Memorial Day weekend, the members of the Wendell Fire Department pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. As we continue serving our community, we remember their sacrifice, reflect on the freedoms they protected, and extend our gratitude to all Gold Star families. Be Safe Wendell.

Well, it appears we have had sufficient rain for the N.C. Forest Service to feel confident in lifting the outdoor burning ban, effective tomorrow morning. But (and that’s a notable but) we’d ask that you exercise due caution in all outdoor activities that involve burning. Be Safe Wendell.

Stay tuned for the reschedule date!

Stay tuned for the reschedule date!

‼️ Unfortunately, due to forecasted rain on Saturday, Wendell's annual Public Safety Day for 2026 has been postponed.

Just a quick update for everyone here in Wendell, even after the rain this weekend, the burn ban is still in place.

We know it feels like things should be better, but conditions are still dry enough to keep the wildfire risk elevated. That means no burning of yard debris, trash, or use of fire pits for now.

Please continue to follow the restrictions and help keep our community safe. It only takes one small fire to get out of control.

We’ll share updates as soon as anything changes. Be Safe Wendell! N.C. Forest Service

Once again, as we head into the weekend, please remember that a total burn ban remains in effect due to dry conditions and an increased fire risk. Open burning of any kind is strictly prohibited, including yard debris, trash barrels, and fire pits. And be cautious with mowers and such as they can generate sparks which can easily result in a fire.

We all play a part in keeping our community safe. Even a small fire can spread quickly and put homes, property, and lives at risk.

If you see smoke or any type of fire, call 911 immediately. Thank you for doing your part to protect Wendell and our community. Be Safe Wendell! N.C. Forest Service
