The Town of Wenham is working with Essex County Greenbelt to place a Conservation Restriction (CR) on the Streeter, soon to be Essex County Greenbelt, property at 9 and 51 Maple Street.

A Conservation Restriction is a permanent legal agreement that protects land in its natural, open, and undeveloped condition. It limits certain uses of the land in order to protect wildlife habitat, water resources, scenic views, and other conservation values. Once recorded, a conservation restriction stays in place forever.

While development and motorized uses are prohibited, conservation restrictions often allow public access for passive, non-motorized recreation and education, as long as those activities do not harm the land or its natural resources.

This survey asks for your input on which recreational and educational activities should be allowed or not allowed on the property. Your feedback will help inform how the Conservation Restriction is finalized and how the property is managed in the future.

Miles River Watershed Action Plan & Survey

The challenges, include blocked water flow, low water levels, pollution and more. These problems make it harder for the river to provide clean drinking water, support wildlife, and offer places for people to enjoy nature. Climate change makes things even worse, with heavier rainstorms, rising temperatures, and longer droughts. Helping the Miles River become more resilient to these changes will protect the people, animals, and plants that depend on it.

The Town of Wenham, in partnership with the Ipswich River Watershed Association, applied for and received funding from the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program to support the development of a Miles River Watershed Action Plan.

Please take the survey for the Miles River study and help us create more resiliency on the river!
