May 2026 is “bringing” it to Stephen’s Corner! A crew for tuckpointing the 1926 rock Mercantile building will start in a few weeks. Let’s call it a 100th Birthday gift for the building. Another crew will soon begin work on cleaning and sealing the original interior floors! And Monett Glass is helping me restore broken glass cabinets that are also 100 years old! Watch for updates!

The original signage was salvaged when the old hotel was demolished and has undergone thorough restoration. It is now showcased inside Stephen's Corner. Internal restoration work remains in progress. Finding skilled laborers without prior commitments is increasingly difficult, but steady progress is being achieved.

Are you aware of the Witches of Wentworth's history, which tells of a witch appearing on an interior wall after the demolition of the 1913 hotel and saloon, with some claiming she is still visible flying through the night sky late at night?

It is indeed a pleasant day in SW Missouri. The historical marker was installed this afternoon, thanks to Pro Mark of Monett. This marker commemorates the mural at Stephens' Corner, detailing its historical significance. While the construction phase is complete, interior work continues. The focus will shift to glass and window installation, masonry, and welding, after which an extensive cleaning process will ensue. We look forward to showcasing the progress soon.

We are seeking a skilled masonry contractor to restore the 1926 Mercantile Store's rock foundation by re-pointing. The structure, built by Mr. Pelsue at his wife's behest, features rock laid by my great-grandfather. If your company is interested in taking on this historic project, please contact us. The Mercantile Store celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
