We are sharing a few pictures from 15 years ago, along with some information about what took place during Hurricane Irene. We were bombarded with calls, and our station was operating on portable generators while serving as the area’s Emergency Operations Center. Travel was cut off in most directions, multiple roads were washed out, and it took weeks before things returned to any sense of normal.
Within the first 12 hours of the storm, we logged more than 70 emergency and non emergency calls into the fire station, along with multiple calls coming into and from the dispatch center with multiple inquiries on facebook messaging, as well as posting to the public on pages . Life-saving measures were put in place, extricating people from their homes , we assisted with road barriers and efforts to get food and supplies to people who were stranded. Trees down all over the towns roads, horses stuck in barns near river lowlands and the list goes on
One example was the area from Ellsworth Hill to Camp Victory, where a group of about 15 or more, was stranded for approx. 3 to 4 days. Camp Pemi campers were checked on often and boats were prepared from their end so needed supplies or emergency services could be delivered if necessary.
Our Emergency Operations Plan had already anticipated and addressed situations like this. We were in constant contact with the State EOC providing us guidance and resources as they did so with multiple towns We were fortunate to have a well-trained, experienced team in place to manage the heavy volume of calls and emergency needs during Hurricane Irene. We learned from this storm and found our weak points quickly in our previous planning and have made adjustments to strengthen those weak areas. The Wentworth police and road departments were on top of the issues as they arose and all departments met and worked together multiple times during and a few days after the storm to get things back to normal. The outpouring of local businesses bringing equipment and resources, foods and drinks for those in need was amazing and welcome. New planning came from this storm and the hazard mitigation plan address some of those past issues as well as the EOP.
We shared these pictures and some quick information as we thought it important to the town and to keep ourselves prepared for future issues, a part of history so to speak Two of these pictures were copied from Dolores Brock photos of that day.

It is time for another member spotlight, and we are pleased to introduce one of our newer firefighters, Monica Welling. Monica and her husband joined the fire department, and since coming on board in October, Monica has jumped right in. Over the winter months, she worked toward her EMT license and successfully passed all required testing. Monica lives in Wentworth with her family, and they enjoy being part of the community. Her husband is also completing his EMT training and preparing for testing, so we look forward to sharing more about his service as well. Monica is eager to learn, has served this country in the military, and now wants to continue serving here in our community. We are excited to have her as part of the team. Wentworth fire has now gained another EMT as well as one FF passing her Hazardous Materials awareness test. Our EMS portion of the department now has 3 EMT 2 EMR 2 EMT students and 1 advanced EMT student Our fire side has 7 FF that are at the minum of level 1 and most are level 2 and some above. With 3 more enrolled in the on your time level 1 program We all have worked hard to achieve these goals and are doing continuing Ed to keep up. We will post member spotlights for these achievements soon.

The past few days have been busy for Wentworth Fire and we will get you all caught up on our calls for service. The big one recently is the forest Fire on Rattlesnake Mountain in Rumney . Wentworth on automatic for these types of calls were asked for Engine 3 with our forestry gear and Engine 2 with our utility and side by side . We had 8 Wentworth fire fighters on scene working in multiple operations. We had Orford Fire dispatched to cover our town and put Warren on automatic for all calls in Wentworth as well. Rumney had gone to a 5th alarm on this forest fire as the fire was wind driven and hard to contain. We were more than happy to help our neighbor in any way we could and the mutual aid companies worked together with out issue. Rumney Fire will have more information on this call as they are working with the national forest division to make decisions on next moves to contain and control. Incident Response Summary
Response and Staging
Wentworth Fire responded with 42 Engine 2, hooked to the utility vehicle and utilizing the side-by-side and wheeled rescue boggan. Wentworth entered the trail with patient care gear along with EMR and EMT personnel on board.
Patient Location and Trail Operations
The initial patient location became an issue because the patient had walked some distance from the known accident site. Manpower was used to help locate the patient while responders proceeded onto the trail with patient care equipment example collars, splints, oxygen, all set up in our first in bag.
Patient Contact and Transfer
Shortly after Wentworth’s arrival and trail entry, another party made patient contact with a side-by-side and brought the patient out to the staging area. The patient was then transferred to Plymouth’s awaiting unit.
Responding Resources
Wentworth had seven responders available to assist as needed, including two EMRs, one EMT, and one EMT student. Warren had Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 on scene with seven responders, including EMRs. Incidents like this can present multiple challenges, including difficult terrain, poor conditions, portable radio limitations, and areas without cell service. 45-Year-Old Has Life Threatening Injuries After UTV Rollover

A Rhode Island man sustained serious, life-threatening injuries Wednesday evening following a UTV rollover crash along an off-highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) trail in Warren.

According to officials, Conservation Officers were notified of the incident near the Glen Cliff Loop OHRV trail at approximately 7:15 p.m. on July 29, 2026.

First responders from the Warren Fire Department and Wentworth Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after the call to render initial emergency aid to the operator, identified as 45-year-old Daniel James of Coventry, Rhode Island.

An investigation into the crash determined that James was doing "donuts" with his UTV when he ultimately lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over.

James suffered severe injuries in the wreck and was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for further emergency treatment and evaluation.

The incident remains under investigation.

7/09/2026 — Medical/evaluation: Patient was located in a vehicle stopped by state police and was confused and lost. The patient was advised to go to the hospital for further evaluation and agreed. Responding agencies: Wentworth Fire and Plymouth Ambulance.
7/10/2026 — Medical/fall: Patient fell, hurt their back, and was immobilized due to pain. Crews assisted with extrication from the home, and the patient was transported to Speare. Responding agencies: Wentworth Fire and Plymouth Ambulance.
7/12/2026 — Traumatic injury: Patient struck their head and was not alert initially. DHART was alerted for a possible airlift, but after further evaluation and improvement in the patient’s condition, DHART was not needed. Responding agencies: Wentworth Fire and Rumney Ambulance.
7/14/2026 — Medical/assist: Patient needed assistance getting back into the home after a hospital stay. Responding agencies: Wentworth Fire and Wentworth Police; Plymouth Ambulance was canceled.
7/14/2026 — Medical/stroke-CVA: Patient was not alert. Responding agencies: Wentworth Fire and Plymouth Ambulance for transport.
7/16/2026 — Tree/wires hazard: Tree on wires; pole snapped and transformer was dislodged from the pole on North Dorchester Road. Fire remained on scene for several hours until lines were restored and the road reopened. A second tree was across the road near the Wentworth-Dorchester line; the Wentworth Road Crew handled that incident, with no lines involved.
7/17/2026 — Water-source notification: Warren Fire alerted Wentworth Fire that the Fish Hatchery water source was out of service; it was back in service the next day.

Other Department Updates
Community Events and repairs to equipment
Warren Old Home Days went very well. Members staffed the booth from 7/10 through 7/12 with raffles, games, cold drinks, and popcorn. The department also participated in the parade with all apparatus, and teams worked the booth in shifts. Members also handled race track duty on Friday, July 10. It was a busy weekend with calls for service as well as several community functions.

We had a charging system fault on Engine 2 but was taken care of quickly, during the interim repairs all medical items were transferred to engine 3 and was available to respond in place of 2 Engine 2 was down for approx. 24 hours.

Training and Member Achievement
Firefighter Jason Stone completed Level 2 testing and passed both the practical and written exams. Between Level 1 and Level 2 coursework, the training represents approximately 290 hours of time involved.

Many firefighters are on track for these goals or have completed these levels, showing the commitment of the members.

EMS training is going well, with additional EMT and Advanced EMT members expected onboard in the fall or early winter. EMS In-house training has also gone well and continues as a monthly program.

Department Activity
The entire department has been busy with committees, projects, fundraising, and continuing education.

Upcoming Recognition
Some Wentworth members will attend Warren Fire Chief Arthur Heath’s retirement party on Saturday the 25th, Chief Heath served the Warren fire and community for 50 years of his time and attention, holding various roles over the years. Our department wishes him well in his future endeavors .

Wentworth Fire & EMS would like to congratulate Jason Stone, one of our newer members, on his completion of the Firefighter Level 2 course.
Jason has been with our department for approximately three and a half years and has become a tremendous asset to both the department and the town. He is dedicated, willing, and always ready to dive in where needed. Like many of our members, he goes above and beyond what is asked of him.
Jason is also enrolled in EMT classes and was completing simultaneous studies during the latter part of his Level 2 training. Firefighter Levels 1 and 2 require many hours of dedication, and adding EMT coursework shows the great amount of time he is committing to serving others. We also extend a huge thank-you to his wife and children for understanding and supporting his commitment. CONGRATS JASON WELL DONE
