Building a Healthier Weslaco, Together
Day 1 of the Blue Zone Committee’s visit to Weslaco brought together Mayor Adrian Gonzalez and City leaders, along with members of the Weslaco Economic Development Corporation and Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, for a tour of our community and an opportunity to showcase all that Weslaco has to offer.
The visit focused on an important goal: creating a healthier Weslaco through collaboration, education, and a shared commitment to the well-being of our residents.
The tour highlighted key areas of our community, including economic development, education, infrastructure, and the growth Weslaco has experienced in recent years.
💙 What is a Blue Zone?
A Blue Zone is a community that focuses on creating an environment where people can live longer, healthier, and more connected lives.
The Blue Zone approach looks at the everyday factors that influence our health — including opportunities to be physically active, access to healthy foods, strong social connections, and community spaces that encourage people to stay engaged and active.
For Weslaco, becoming a Blue Zone means looking at how we can build on the strengths we already have and work together to make healthy choices easier and more accessible for everyone.
A healthier Weslaco takes all of us. Through collaboration, education, and dedication, we can continue creating a community where our residents and future generations can thrive.
