“The Ray Hughston Humanitarian Award is bestowed honor an outstanding Lion of District 2-A3 who has given usefully of his/her time, talents and means to further the cause of humanitarian service.”

The Weslaco Lions Club is proud to announce that at the District 2-A3 Convention this past weekend, Second Vice District Governor William Castillo presented the Award to PDG Laura Jane Clark.

Our Lions District 2-A3 Convention included our annual announcement of the newest Ray Hughston Humanitarian Award. This award is for members from only our District and is open for nominations from across the District each year.

This year's awardee is PDG Laura Jane Clark from the Weslaco Lions Club .

PDG Laura has been a member of the Weslaco Lions Club since 2008 and has served her Club, the District and the Multiple District in various leadership positions. She currently serves as the District 2-A3 Cabinet Treasurer, District 2-A3 Texas Lions Foundation Trustee, Club Service Chair, Guiding Lion and is Co-Chair of the MD-2 LCICon 2030 Host Committee.

PDG Laura is the recipient of the Leader Dogs for the Blind Founders Tribute, a Texas Lions Foundation Cornerstone Club member, a Texas Lions Camp Century Club member, a Texas Lions Camp Life Member, a 100% District Governor for the Texas Lions Camp and Ed Flood Award recipient for the Texas Lions Foundation. She also has a Membership Key for her sponsorship of new Lions with Lions International and was honored with a resolution from the State of Texas House of Representatives for her volunteer work with Lions Clubs International.

Lion Laura is a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Clubs International Foundation, a progressive Jack Wiech Fellow of the Texas Lions Camp, a Texas Lions Foundation Fellow, an Everett J. “Ebb” Grindstaff Fellowship of the Texas Lions Museum and State Office Foundation, and has received Presidential Certificates of Appreciation from International President Dr. Naresh Aggarwal (2017-18) and International President Brian Sheehan (2022-23). She is also a recipient of the Presidential Medal from International President Fabricio Oliveira (2024-2025) and the Leadership Medal from International President Gudrun Yngvadottir (2018-19). Lion Laura has also received a Certificate of Accomplishment from Lions Clubs International Foundation as a 100% Club Support District during her term as District Governor (2023-24) from LCIF Chairman and Past International President Brian Sheehan.

Our Weslaco Lions Club would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lion Bobby Norman. Lion Bobby joined the Weslaco Lions in 1983 and was committed to our motto, “We Serve”. Our Club and our community has lost a great person with a servant heart.
