In partnership with the South Dakota Department of Health, Avel eCare just launched a groundbreaking continuing education (CE) credit program, the first of its kind in virtual care.

Now, EMS professionals can earn CE credit while delivering care in the field, thanks to real-time support from Avel’s board-certified emergency physicians and clinical team.

This isn’t just a new offering. It’s a new standard.

For anyone who might be interested in becoming an EMT, there are a few options available. The School of EMS is hosting an online class. Deb Fastnacht is teaching an in-person class in Stickney beginning the week of Sept 8, 2025. Brian Baldwin is teaching an in-person class with Kimball Ambulance. Beadle County Emergency Management is planning on a hybrid on-line/in-person class sometime this fall/winter as well. If you have any questions, please contact Deb Fastnacht at 605-770-5137.

Please take this advice. Whenever the heat index is this high, remember to stay hydrated. Drink water with electrolytes, avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages, and stay inside a cool place or a shaded area. If you start to feel sick, lightheaded, nauseous, headache, or stop sweating seek help immediately. We love our community, but don't like having to see you during a heat emergency.

Also, keep an eye on the weather. These storms today could be quite severe. Don't get caught out in it.

Well, the rodeo got off to a rainy start Friday but once that passed, performances were top notch! Saturday night was even better! We were lucky and had no major injuries, so we got to kick back and enjoy the show! (Not really. We were hanging on the fence watching with anticipation.) Thanks Wessington Springs Foothills Rodeo for another great year!

We had a great time at the Leap to Lane Festival last weekend. Attendance was down due to the extreme heat, but we still had the kids lined up to throw those balls. We raised $254 that will go toward purchasing equipment for the ambulance. Thanks to all those who participated. FYI, the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department aka the "Hot and Wet Heroes", were the winners of this year's competition. With the Dunkin' Donuts aka Jerauld County Sheriff coming in second. I think we need a rematch!

Please take the time to watch this video. Everything in here is a true statement to what we are facing in rural areas. What would you do if you called 911 and no one was available to help you? We have to do something about it soon, or that will be the case right here at home.

And what can be done about it.Thanks to our sponsor, T-Mobile: http://t-mobile.com/FirstRespondersHere's a pretty obvious statement: In the more rural, sprea...

A new ‘Move Over’ law goes into effect July 1. The new law says if you are approaching a vehicle that is stopped or on the shoulder of the highway and using amber, yellow or blue warning lights, you must merge into the lane farthest from that vehicle and proceed with caution, or, if on a two lane highway, at least 300 feet before that vehicle, slow to a speed at least 20 mph less than the posted speed limit, or 5 mph if the limit is 20 mph or less. A violation is a Class 2 misdemeanor and has a minimum fine of $270. If you are a violator AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT with a stopped emergency vehicle using its red signals or ANY vehicle using amber, yellow, or blue warning lights while stopped or on the shoulder, it is a Class 1 misdemeanor carrying increased penalties.
