THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THE HELP**** This is Nova, an English Spaniel, and was last seen close to the intersection of 390th Ave and 222nd street around 1130 this morning while out hunting. He is wearing an orange vest, a shock collar, and a collar with his name and the contact information for his owners. The Jerauld County Commissioners approved a speed zone change for trucks on 221st Street. The speed limit has been reduced to 40 MPH. With harvest around the corner, please watch for the several signs that have been placed and posted and watch your speed while driving.

Power is currently out in Wessington Springs and Lane. Both Northwestern and the city have been made aware of the situation and are working on the situation.

Last week the office received the report we get from the SD Department of Revenue that lists the locations of licensed retail fireworks stands in Jerauld County. This year the only location listed for a licensed retail stand is at the junction of 383rd Avenue and HWY 34, just east of Wessington Springs.
Their correspondence also provided us with the time frame for the sale of fireworks which is June 27 through July 5, 2026.
We frequently get calls asking for this information, so it was decided this year to make the information as accessible as possible for everyone.
The other question we frequently get asked this time of year is what the laws are for celebrating with fireworks. SDCL 34-37-16.1 identifies that time as June 27th to the following Sunday after July 4th. Use any time outside of the stated time period is a class 2 misdemeanor. This year, that day is going to be July 5, 2026.

The Fourth of July brings an increase in highway travel and impaired driving so State and local Law Enforcement agencies are stepping up enforcement to crack down on impaired drivers and save lives. Hello, I’m Deputy Sheldon with the Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office. Impaired driving is a dangerous and deadly crime and we will be conducting saturation patrols with high visibility enforcement targeting impaired drivers. The Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety want to remind everyone to please be responsible this Fourth of July and designate a sober driver. Remember “Buzzed driving is drunk driving.”
